Don't use ROM manager it does not work for the bionic. I use safe strap 3.0 . after you flash the jb fxz, root then download the latest safe strap app and follow the instructions for it. Once that is done you can go about what you need to do.

yeah, after 2 hours of gioogling ive finally found that ROM Manager is pretty much useless for the Bionic due to the locked bootloader, however, as far as i know, Safestrap does NOT allow me to flash the GSM patch due to some security lock or something like that, what i need to do is just flash that GSM patch to unlock my bionic since Radiocomm always shows that 1877 NV value in red and i can't write the new string to enable GSM...

EDIT: also forgot to mention that Bootstrap doesnt work on JB. tried that yesterday and then i got that "system encryption failed do a factory reset" error

You need the moto bionic specific version of cwm. This is beyond the scope of this thread. I suggest you refer to the root section first.

The moto cwm is removed by Uninstall bootstrap app
Explore to internal file of system/bin mount to r/w
Delete:
/hijack
/logwrapper
Rename:
/logwrapper.bin to /logwrapper
(just remove the '.bin' from the name)
Reboot

lars I did a factory data reset before I started with radiocomm so I could make sure I started from scratch. it currently has android version 4.1.2, when I went to the thread I didn't see anything on how to set the permissions am I just overlooking?

had an epiphany 15 minutes ago and SBFed to stock, rooted, installed Bionic bootstrap and flashed recovery, then installed ROM Manager and again flashed recovery then reboot into recovery through ROm Manager and BANGG CWM right there on that 4.3 inches screen... flashed that GSm patch with no errors, so two qustions.

Will that edit to the radio survive if i flash CM10 ? and can i flash CM10 OVER stock ROM through CWM ? im asking because on every Motorola device ive had ive always used safestrap to install custom ROMs on slot1 so im not sure if its possible to replace stock ROM.

SBFing as y type this to test it myself... will report result ASAP.

Setting permissions applies only if you are replacing the build.prop

Nice. My advice is to get GSM working on the stock rom first. People have had mixed results on other roms although CM is pretty generic. Change one thing at a time and test. To answer your question, the radio patch will survive until you flash a radio image. If the CM10 build does not touch the radio partition it will remain.

welp, i got excited for nothing as there's no way to flash a custom ROM on anything other than slot1 so CWM is also useless, and if i only flash the GSm patch and reboot it gives me the encryption failed do factory reset because Bootstrap isnt compatible with JB.

whats the stock value on that NV string on item 1877? on mine it starts with '5570 and im starting to think that this phone may be faulty in some way and thats the reason i can't modify the values on Radiocomm, something that boggles me is that, the first 2 times ive tried to change those 16 digits, radiocomm did show that value on green text, but after that no matter what i do it's always red text, i can read but im unable to write i don't understand why.

Im running out of ideas since i can't flash the GSM patch on stock JB ROM using Safestrap, and also i can't flash using TWRP because LOL locked bootloader. It's so annouying because 2 weeks ago i did the exact same process and it took about 20 minutes from start to finish and worked perfectly on first try.

FINALLY it ******* worked... after trying on 8 differentc computers with different windows versions, i used my son's old laptop, did a fresh Win XP install, motorola device manager, radiocomm 11.22 and it worked at first try...

I don't know what the hell happened as in my computer worked for that other Bionic 2 weeks ago and i didn't uninstall anything, anyways, now its unlocked for ******* finally.

I flashed cm-10.1.0-RC2-targa-GSM.zip but im wondering if theres a more recent version available.

So I'm curious, for the people who have tried through straighttalk, which is better? att or tmobile? I came across this phone for cheap, am currently on straight talk, and decided to try it out. So before I go buy the "att kit", which is better? att or tmobile?

Alright, so I flashed the new stock rom, did the edit with radiocomm.. i followed all of the steps i could find. I finally got my att straighttalk sim card today, set it up, put it in.. and am getting the msg sim card from unknown source. Now, even though its saying unknown source, i have been able to test txt and calls, both work fine. I understand it will take some time for mms to work, but all it says about the unkown source screen on here is click ok, well there is no ok.. What can/should i do?

wait, I didn't root it, but I read root wasn't needed. also when i change to wcdma is doesnt save, it resets when i reset the phone.

alright, well i sort of figured that. Now for the million dollar question.. to access the apn settings, i'm going to need a verizon sim right? unless there is another way to access those settings with the "sim card is from an unknown source" screen still present.

I don't know why you can't clear the sim error but apn is configured by dialing ##program and pwd 000000

Alright. I tried to enter that, but it says only emergancy calls are allowed.. although the *#*#info#*#* does work. I think it hasn't something to do with having to hit the send button with the program one, and not the info one.

This is something I should have asked to begin with.. How long does it usually take for all of the services(txt, mms,Voice) to fully activate? Do you think it would make a difference if the phone was fully active? I've since switched back to my other phone((small samsung galaxy precedent(old phone with talkstraight os)but it still works))I was thinking about dropping the $50 for the month service and seeing if it works..

Even though the unrecognized source display was happening, i could still receive txt, but I was only able to send if I started at the received txt and worked back to the inbox.. It could receive calls, but i did not try to call(i'm dumb). I could pull down the top menu, which did display the ATT logo, but That was it, besides seeing unread txt and missed calls..

When I switched back to my samsung it took awhile for all the services to work. txt was almost instant.. calls were a while after that.. not sure with sms but i couldnt send a picture for a while after voice was active aswell as receiving and downloading.

I've tried to cover every point i can for now. trouble shooting computers(mostly windows), wit a few macs is something i enjoy and have went to school for. If for nothing else I want to figure this out simply to know why it will or wont work with this phone.

I appreciate all of ur input on the topic from the first thread to the last, u are of a rare bread, most knowledgeable people in forums are not as willing to help.

I've come back from out of the country and had it take half an hour before all the Verizon services came back and that's using the Verizon sim overseas and only VZW in the USA.

Usually sms works first, then voice, then data. Sometimes things are instant though.

I know no one has posted in this topic in a while but I thought I would try and see what happens. And I should mention that I do know somethings about computers but I am no where near an expert at software changes on phones so any questions I ask, please reguard me as an idiot. Anyways, I recently got a damaged Droid Bionic from the place I work at and I got it back to working status. Once I did that I did a hard Factory reset and then updated everything to the latest version. I think I am running off of Jelly Bean (Android 4.1.2). I am also wanting to use this phone on Straight Talk just like ilikeroot because I am tired of the Samsung Presedent I am using. As of right now I have not done anything to the phone other than software and firmware updates. I have not modified anything as of yet. I have downloaded RadioComm Version 11.12.2 and I have tried to follow instruction I have found here as well as the XDA forum and youtube which all seem to verify each other on how to use RadioComm but when I put in NV Access Value 1877, mine show up in red as well. Since I do not know mostly what I am doing, what are the detailed steps I need to take in order to get this phone working on the Straight Talk. I have played aroung with this phone and I like it so I want to use it on a permenant basis. Lars if you are still out there, please I need your help. Thanks in advance whether you are or are not able to help.

Hi Lars, I'm trying to use my Bionic in Asia. After successfully executing all required steps, I get gsm out of service in phone info inside my home. But when I go outside, I see some weak signal in phone info and also when I search for a network through the mobile network menu, it shows one carrier(not mine). I get to see many operators even inside the house using other phones. So I'm wondering if it's a signal strength issue. I saw in one of your posts that you have used Bionic in many countries using Vzw global sim and other sims. I'm thinking when you activated global roaming plan for your phone, perhaps Verizon programmed your phone over the air so that it was optimized and GSM RF calibration done as well. If that's true, perhaps the NV items were updated to that effect. If you don't mind, could you create a qcn file using QPST and RF NV Manager so that other people like me might get benefited with it hopefully. There is no sensitive data in it at all. NV Item 550 has IMEI but in this case, it's generic and same for all, I believe. You can omit that if you like by creating customized NV list easily. This process would only take only a few minutes if you already have the required software.

Your help would be highly appreciated. I see that you've been helping people for a long time and therefore I could think of making this request to you. Thanks in advance!!

Getting radiocomm working is a matter of installing the drivers correctly and turning off USB debugging as I recall.

The phone does not have a very strong gsm antenna. it uses motos diversity unit. My bionic went to one of my employees so I no longer have access to mess with it in this way.
I am using a razr HD maxx that I unlocked to work on USA carriers. it is already unlocked for foreign ones and support gsm by default.

Thanks Lars I got it working and got the os working as well didn't know that a few words on a build.prop makes a big difference but thanks. Works well with the cm11 the kitkat does wonders.
