The Galaxy Note 9 Rumor & Pre-Release Thread

HOLD THE PRESSES!

Looks like Big Boss JY Lee, #2 at Samsung, came down with a harsh case of phone envy and sent the Note9, well into production, BACK to the drawing board!

So they're shaving a half-millimeter off the thickness. Maybe they're packing in a few last-minute features that got finished too late for the initial production run. We'll see in August!

Okay, that's it. Forbes, I'm officially blocking you as a 'news' source.

Galaxy Note 9 Renders based off latest leak... https://www.sammobile.com/2018/06/07/poll-your-opinion-galaxy-note-9-leaked-renders and https://www.sammobile.com/2018/06/06/major-galaxy-note-leak-new-design-cameras-headphone-jack

The sentence below, which is from the 2nd article made me recheck my waning perspective on the Note 9.
"...Unlike those who work in this field (and those who love tech with a passion), most consumers don’t change their phones every year, so a lot of folks will be coming to the Galaxy Note 9 from devices that are at least two years old."
I guess if it comes down to if every other Note edition raises the bar with new features, design elements, and functionality shouldn't this be enough for me? If it takes the Note 9 to come in somewhat "flat" (at least to me) in order to achieve greatness through innovation with the Note 10 (X), I'll live with that...I think.

The tech media is griping about the Note9 having the same design as the Note8, like that's a bad thing. Last year the same media was all goo-goo over it. It's a fantastic design! If it has enough improvements under the hood, I might pick it up... but I think Samsung knows that the mass market for it is made up of people who don't have the Note8. Maybe they were stuck in a contract with a Note 5 or some other phone - so this will be a great upgrade for them. For us Note8 owners, we can decide individually if the cost of the 9, minus the price we get selling the 8, is justified by the improvements.

We know, more than anyone, what it is that sets the Galaxy Note line apart from every other device. The S Pen.

Some people are happy power users who need top specs from their phones, and rarely use the S Pen. Some of us are fat-fingered and use the S Pen for accuracy. Some apply their artistic skills and draw/paint with it.

Apparently the Note9 S Pen will have more functionality than anyone had predicted:

45 days to go!

Well, this is getting more interesting as we go... 43 days!

EDIT: The Galaxy Note9 has cleared FCC certification! Clear your calendar for August 9th!

EDIT 2: Now the tech blogosphere, which has been poo-pooing the Note9 for months, is now all excited over the official announcement. Apparently the magic is all in the S Pen this year. We'll see!

BTW is anybody buying this story that Samsung invited a Russian tech blogger to an American preproduction facility, to get a hands on experience with a South Korean phone, two months before the phone goes public?

Because that's about 50 liters of Makes No Sense To Me and I only have a 20 liter bucket...

Yeah...I'm not buying that story either.

A Bluetooth S Pen?

That means that the S Pen will be used for something more than writing and drawing - it can be used several meters from the phone! But for what?

Remote shutter for the camera? We already have a voice-controlled shutter.
Music controls? Though why I would be holding just the S Pen and not the phone baffles me...
Perhaps a built-in microphone for dictation? But again, where's the phone in this?

38 days to go!

BTW Samsung's home page now has a signup form to livestream the Note9 Unpacked event... of course, you don't NEED to sign up, as it will likely livestream on Samsung's YouTube channel. However, I signed up just in case Samsung offers a premium gift for pre-orders from those who signed up. You never know!

That question is what makes me curious about the Note9. I'm not as excited about it as I am curious. What would we need the S Pen to do that far away from the phone that we can't do already without it?
