The Glass Really Does Suck

Worst glass on any HTC device I have ever owned.

I had two HTC hardware qwerty phones on Cingular (can't remember the models), a "Tilt" on AT&T, an Eris @ Verizon... still have my Incredible... and now with the Thunderbolt...

I've babied this thing for thirty days and it's absolutely piss poor looking.

Interesting. I had mine since launch and I haven't babied it and it is as it was new. Therefore I am forced to conclude that you got a defective unit. I am sorry for that, perhaps you should exchange it.

I'm also noticing several scratches and nics in my screen. I was using a screen protector and then took it off after someone pointed out it was gorilla glass, similar to the OG droid. :( Droid has no scratches on the screen, and is nearly 2 years old, while my thunderbolt has many! :( Is that a defect on my phone or what?

just because it's gorilla glass doesn't mean there's a not scratchable coating on top. My dinc which was gorilla glass too supposedly does not have the same surface feel as my TB and resisted scratches much better.

Launch Thunderbolt here that spends every day in my pocket with no screen protector. No scratches of any kind on the device.

I have a screen protector, I just wish it went all the way down and covered the 4 buttons too...still no scratches on the device yet though.

In case you're interested, I happen to have the Steinheil Ultra Oleophobic screen protector, which I purchased because I wanted to reduce fingerprints. (ehh on the fingerprint reduction)

I never even gave a thought to if it covered the buttons or not, but reading your post, I took a look.

It goes from just a fraction, a hair short of the very top of the TB, covering the black portion and the Verizon logo and name, down to below the haptic feedback buttons!

Size wise, I have to say, they made it as long as possible... you do need a fraction of an inch to allow installation. (Sorry to deviate from the OP's topic)

I've had my Droid nearly two years and have abused it like it was a rock and it has no scratches just dirty fingerprints. Maybe you need to cut your nails.

Had my TB for a month so far..put a screen protector on it the first day and it spends most of its time in my pocket with car keys..no signs of any scratches yet...even the protector surface looks good.

Dunno what you're doing to your phone but I'd have to say this screen is as good as it gets short of gorilla glass. Don't have any scratches at all with no screen protector. The screen also self cleans while inside your pocket as it just rubs the fingerprints off on your pants. My friend's galaxy S however does not and there's a constant helping of greasy fingerprints and are clearly visible.

i usually use a zagg, but i haven't put one on my TB since i got it. i wouldn't say i baby my phone, but i'm certainly a bit careful. i haven't noticed any issues with the screen.
in fact, just the other day i had two instances where it fell directly on it's screen. one was just while propped up on a desk, and the other was off the couch onto the floor. no scratches at all.

I've had this phone for a few weeks now and already have multiple scratches. I treat it better than I did my Incredible that had zero scratches after more than a year. The Thunderbolt screen is definitely inferior. Oh well, it's still awesome.

The more "My TB sucks" stories i read, the more i cherish my perfectly fine TB. No reboots, no scratches, no nothing.

it's gorilla glass bud. take better care of it and it won't get scratched. it's glass man it isn't unbreakable.
Hm... good to know. I didn't think it was Gorilla Glass. My X had it and I dropped that ting in the road, screen down, picked it up without a scratch on the glass :)

CORNING

I dragged my phone across some concrete and I have no idea why the screen scratched. Wierd. I am calling Verizon immediately to complain.
