The history of my Desire

This is more of an idle enquiry than anything else....

I bought a second hand Desire off of eBay, it is (I believe) on the stock 2.2 ROM and is unbranded and unrooted. It is on version 2.29.405.5.

Now as discussed in another thread, the "405" in my version number means it is unbranded, which is true. However, although the seller said the phone was only 2 months old, an email from HTC confirms the device was first registered in August 2010 and was branded and locked to o2.

Does this just mean someone has unlocked it, or has been been flashed with another ROM....or something else :D

I did double check with the seller why he said he'd been using it two months when in fact it is much older than that....but he didn't reply...

If thats what HTC say, you have a debranded phone (not unbranded). Also if you are using something other than an O2 SIM, it has also been unlocked.

Oh well, fingers crossed it doesn't get a fault, but if it does it will come back from HTC locked and branded as o2 won't it. I should know better than to trust eBay seller descriptions

If you send it debranded, warranty is void. Have to send it back with dev version of 2.3 to be sure (from HTCdev.com) which is the only debranding that is warranty covered

Strewth, I'm definitely keeping my fingers crossed then - anyway for the moment I am well chuffed with the phone. You could say it is a bit of an upgrade from my previous phone, a Samsung Galaxy Europa i5500 :)
