The iPhone 5 doesn't stand a chance!

Interesting article.

Its just that by the time it releases, most of the tech and features it has will either be already in use on Android phones or Android phones will be on the verge of moving forward.

If that LG Nexus 3 rumor holds true, and I think Moto might release a quad core phone by then, there wont be too many things iPhone fanboys can say is innovative on the iPhone 5.

(even tho alot of them mentioned the retina display as having the highest screen res of any phone in fanboy wars, there was an Android phone that had the same screen res in some foreign country last year. Somehow that was overlooked or missed. Even with that, Android phones, even Win Mo phones had higher screen res than the iPhones before the iPhone 4. I guess it wasnt innovative until the iPhone had the highest screen res....)

Hearing the iPhone 5 might have face recognition to unlock the phone will be something kinda different. Personally I would want the fingerprint reader. It would look less geekish...lol But one man's geek is another man's cool, I guess.

I definitely agree, i think that Apple's reign over the smartphone industry is finished. At least hardware wise, people still may go for the iPhone because they prefer the simplicity and the brand.

How much of the article is trustworthy if basic stuff is flubbed?

Just saying... you know how I get. ;)

Lot of assumptions about the iP5 there - and I've yet to see too many people get right what Apple is releasing ahead of time.

It doesn't matter if the iPhone 5 will be obsolete. The iPhone 5 is going to get a lot of free publicity because every phone that can be compared to the iPhone 5 will be compared to the iPhone 5. Everyone who is out looking for a phone will hear about the iPhone 5 because everyone will say how it compares with it. Even if 15 phones will be better than the iPhone 5, just ask people if they've heard of any of them and most people would have heard of the iPhone 5. As long as everyone uses the iPhone as a standard to which to compare a phone, the iPhone will remain one of the most popular phones out there. Heck, just look at how many times I mentioned it in this post alone.

And really, it can only be seen as obsolete to tech, spec fiends. It wont matter to someone just wanting a good phone.

Hell, I put SPB Shell 3D on my Droid X, and some ppl thought I had a new phone...lol

I heard Steve Jobs hates having any buttons on his devices.

So, they'll just maker it slimmer, a la iPad 2, and copy Honeycomb by having all buttons/navs as part of the OS and incorporate some of that Liquid Metal whoknowswhatsitz they acquired and it'll sell like hotcakes. ;)

I just read the article in the OP, and I agree that there's a good chance we're underestimating the iP5. Apple has access to the specs of all these Android phones as well. So, being good at keeping secrets, they're obviously aiming high, possibly higher than we can imagine.

And remember, a great iPhone will push Android to continue its improvement.

Iphone marketing is still very strong. Some people around me buy a phone just by its name - and they know the name "iphone" very well...

Fortunately, both Android and Android devices are getting better and better.
It doesn't really matter what hardware specs Iphone5 will have. It is the whole ecosystem (OS, UI, Apps, Innovation, mixed manufacturers, developers, freedom of choice, etc) that matters to me. And in this regard, I strongly prefer Android over iOS devices.
Hell, there is no way someone should tell me how to use my phone! :)

Its been consistently, the other way around.

It goes both ways.

If you're running a two-person race, and you're currently in the lead, you would stay motivated to run fast if your competitor showed no signs of giving up. But if your competitor threw in the towel and started to walk, you'd most likely start to slack. Less motivation to keep up the pace.

Apple doesn't see themselves in second place. They see themselves as the leader but with the Android freight train barreling down on them from behind. So they're going to do everything they can to stay in front.

Either way, they are motivated to come out with something outstanding, and that's good for Android's evolution.

I'm guessing the iPhone 5 will do just fine, and make Apple a lot of money. Apple is the company that re-invented phones. Android would not be as good as it is today without the iPhone. Hell, the iPhone still has a better screen and smoother UI. You guys get caught up in technical specs but forget that the technical prowess of a product is only one factor in it's success. Ease of use, marketing, and customer service all play a role, as well, and Apple is top notch in each of those categories.

Really, though. How does anyone know what specs the iPhone 5 has? Apple is a smart company, and can redesign the hardware pretty fast.

Seems that Tom's Hardware is putting its eggs in the Android basket for this year. They think the iPhone 5 will be obsolete by the time it's released;
Guess they don't know what obsolete means (like many). Not being at the top in term of features != obsolete.

Some of them are very basic and easy to figure out. I will bet it will have an A5 processor just like the iPad 2. You can guess why just because they buy a lot of there parts from Samsung.

The A5 is pretty much exactly the same as the Exnos. It's just the Exnos has a much better GPU.

we dont know.. what iphone 5 has... how can anyone know how it will do?

but learning from the past.

i will bet it will impress.

iPhone 5 comes with a peppermint stick and some special "Apple toilet paper" to whipe your ass on.

Edit - But just like the iPhones, all the toilet paper looks the same.
