How does it work with this phone? Can it be any color?

I'm currently using GO SMS PRO app and I'd really like to configure it so that two of my most popular contacts get red and blue lights (one red, one blue) and the rest get a green light when they text me. I tried going into individual settings but it just doesn't work, the light stops working alltogether so I'm wondering if this phone can use different colored lights. It seems like by default someone using an android gets a blue light and someone using another phone gets yellow light.

If the solution is to use an app like "Light Flow" please be specific as to how to set it up because I was having so much confusion attempting to use it before, I eventually just uninstalled it.
 
I use go SMS and the led works fine for me.
I have the default set to blue and a couple of other colors for individuals.
 
Hmm, it seemed to work fine but then I went messing around in the settings trying to make it different for certain contacts and it no longer lights up.
 
Sorry for the double post, I don't see an edit button...

It says "System notification is off, click here to test GO SMS notification's availability" under "Test Notifiaction" but on the notification settings I do have enable notifications checked. I looked in settings but can't seem to find a notification option. I tried reinstalling the app, still doesn't work.

Oh wasn't logged in...thats why there was no edit button :)
