The Note 2 is truly amazing and worth the wait!

Had my note 2 for two days now, and I can genuinely say I've never been so pleased with a device in my life. I have the 16gb titanium grey with 64gb Micro SD. The official UK version, not the french one doing the rounds in the UK.

This is my first non apple phone since the iphone. So from the perspective of a former iphone 4s owner. Some things im enjoying:

1) The screen size. Really bright and enourmous. Games are all full screen sized even older android apps youtube and movies are very impressive. I'm even considering giving my ipad to my 8 year old, I feel it will not really be needed by myself now for a few reasons. Its 16gb I can fit over three times what I watch on the ipad on my phone plus watching movies on the note doesn't feel like I'm losing out on the experience because the screen isn't so small for a phone. Everytime ive been with someone and got this out they all drool over the screen. Its a nice feeling.

2) The customisable nature of the android software. Actually having widgets as an option. Using nova launcher to make everything more personal (then going back to touchwiz anyway because that itself was gorgeous) You can even make a iphone style homepage with just apps if you want. My point is the choice the freedom! Plus little things like haptic feedback and an LED light. Motion controls. The Note 2 detecting you etc palm swipe picture capturing etc. All the kind of things that really should have been in the iphone5.

3) The S Voice works just as effective at siri for what I use it for. Sending messages. Setting alarms. I was concerned I would miss siri but so far im not. Also Google Voice makes it much easier than iphone to delete voice errors when using text. Im aware Siri is meant to be more advanced or human but so far at the basic level I use it S Voice is doing the same. Also a UK female voice is a nice touch in the UK Siri has a butler style voice I never could really warm to.

4) S Pen accuracy. Reading my god awful handwriting and converting it to text is very impressive. I take a lot of notes for my hobby, sheets and sheets of paper at a time. This has been a godsend for me.

5) The weight and pocket fit ability. When it arrived I thought it was only the covers for the phone I had ordered the box was that light. Considering its size its not much heavier than my iphone 4s. Also the dreaded pocket myths for me were a joke. Normal jeans the phone slips into fine nothing poking out the top etc. Also some jogger pants the same fits fine. I think Samsung knew what they were doing with the pocket thing. Even tight jeans it will fit in just will look more prominent id think.

6) The battery is really really impressive. I used it through out the day heavy usage as im still installing and customising etc I had 24% left from an overnight charge.

This thing is seriously impressive. I haven't even used the Multi Tasking windows yet!

Downsides? It is very big; typing texts is fine because of the one handed use keyboard but trying to reach with your thumb to the top of the screen is impossible. Annoying when using FB or Twitter etc. You have to shuffle the phone which could be risky walking dropping etc. Now shuffling it is second nature but ladies may have issues with smaller hands. Im a big bloke myself and it's not easy to use one handed (although it is possible)

But this is the cost of the 5.5 inch screen. I can never, ever go back smaller now. Just couldn't do it.

So for me now apple is the past. Kudos to them though, they paved the way for these beauties we use now. I dont expect anything from apple close to the note 2 for a very very long time My next phone will be wherever the Note series goes. Those of you waiting in the U.S. and elsewhere it will be more than worth the wait for your note 2. Especially if you've only known iphones.

Enjoy it!

Thanks for the review. I've been using the iPhone 3G and 4 for the past 4.5 years. My wife just got an iPhone 5 and nothing about it really appeals to me. I can't wait for the Note 2 to get released in the US so I can give it a try. I'm a little concerned about such a big jump in size (3.5-5.5") but it sounds like most people who have gone from iPhones to the Note are loving the new real estate. I'm sure I"ll be the same.

Yea it is awkward at times (if you are trying to use it one handed) but the screen is so sweet for films and games it outweighs the minuses. Sometimes I just sit looking at the lock screen in awe at the screen lol.

My girlfriend used it earlier and was surprised by how light it was considering. Shes an iphone 3G user. Give it a try like you say. I know a few friends who say its too big for them though. Outside of the screen you're also getting all the android benefits which as an IOS owner you'll really enjoy.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to the note for the s-pen. I think I'd prefer a s3 sized note with s-pen. Add a portrait keyboard and you've got my perfect phone. However, we'll see what happens when I start using this bad boy. I might not be able to go back after that amazing screen.

I'm currently a Motorola Razr Droid user and still have a year left on contract, but I am seriously thinking of trying to convince my provider to let me have one of these. It may be a little big in the hand for a woman but after an incident yesterday I can see at least one benefit.

I am a woman you see, and as such my handbag contains everything except the kitchen sink (I only take that on weekends away) and yesterday I was on the phone to the hospital and the girl gave me loads of info which I needed to write down. Could I find a pen in this massive bag of mine, couold I hell, took me 5 mins at least whilst trying to make polite conversation with the very patient girl on the end of the phone. Had I got a Note 2 however, I simply could've whipped out my S-pen and written on the note it woul've generated on my phone! Simple.

Thanks for the review. Been an iPhone user since the 3G and have gotten a little sick with the "updates" that Apple's been making (or not making) to their newer iPhones. I'm patiently waiting for these to become available in the states so I'm on pins/needles waiting for some good news :D Looks like I've made a good choice on getting the Note 2.

It's funny cause I bought 2 Note LTEs when they came out, one for me and one for my fiance. She's like 5'2, super tiny hands and all that, and now she told me to never buy her a phone that's smaller than the Note lol.

I normally use MoboPlayer for my video. But today I had a play with the stock video player and.....

OMG the chapter function!!!! If you ever needed a quick simple demo of the power of the phone and the advantage of a larger screen this is it.

I'm nearly one week into using this phone and everyday I'm discovering new things.

You have made the right choice. I feel like my eyes have been opened using this phone. You will love it.

I've noticed over the last few days, that im using the phone more like the phablet it is. For the bottom half of the screen I use it one handed, the top half I use my other hands finger. It feels really natural. Much easier then the shuffling. You have to make some sacrifice so to speak to enjoy the larger screen. This way is working for me. Less drop risk too than that shuffling of the entire phone I did. Its a totally new device for me im still learning!

I have the Note1 and the size is just fine ,as the Note2 is narrower it shouldn't be a problem. :D . I will be getting the Note2 when my contract (T-mobile ) ends. I will join Three on the One Plan.

Julie

Yeah I mostly use 2 hands on my Note. I have the homescreen default to landscape, I rarely use it in portrait.

How did you find t-mobile as a provider??

Phone signals excellent, unfortunately my internet during the past 18 months has been dire,it used to be excellent but has really gone downhill:mad:. Customer Services can be hit and miss - but I guess we all have bad days!!

I'm testing out a PAYG Three Sim card and the AYCE data has been a joy:D
I have heard however, that Three's Customer Services are a nightmare

I was on PAYG 3 SIM Card for at least 4 years and on the rare occasions I needed it, I always found their Customer Service excellent.

I moved to a PAYG SIM from T-Mobile/Orange (and away from 3) yesterday because the two operators share their network transparently. That is, depending on exactly where I am, I may be connected via either T-M or Orange. I cannot fathom their T&C regarding internet but it cost me

been on three for 48 months, customer service can be frustrating at times, but when an antenna went down near my house they couldnt of been more helpfull, refunding a months rental, unlocking my sgs1 phone so i could use a paygo sim in my house and providing credit too. even offered me to cancel contract at no charge, but stayed put. now on the one plan and had note 2 3 days after launch :D

We had two 3G dongles on Three for about two years as we couldn't get a decent landline broadband connection at the time, we've only just got BT vision in the last couple of months. Going from a 15GB/month 3G dongle to unlimited 6.5MB/s has been amazing! :D

Anyway, 3 were great with me whilst we were paying them. It's when I wanted to cancel our one month rolling contracts that we had problems. It took me three days and about

I agree it's a brilliant phone. My daughter came round today and as an Apple fan for years she was seriously impressed, and could see herself with one of these.

I bought mine Pay as you go on 3, my 3 contract was at the end with the iphone, was paying

I'm too old, i still like to use a landline to talk to people. :)

lol, i aint got a landline, i get my 50mb broadband via wifi with an antenna on the roof, infact only time ive missed landline in nearly 1 1/2 years was couple of months ago, i put galaxy s1 somewhere in house, and had nowt to ring it on, to find it :D:D:D:D:D

Thats the only problem with most contracts today. To get a decent data bundle you have to take stupid amounts of minutes and texts.

I went via dialphone for mine as t-mob wouldnt let me upgrade to the note. I went via orange panther so I could get the deezer unlimited music swappable as thats what most of my data bundle goes on anyways.

Free phone and a cheaper contract than I was paying for a nexus s. Shame I get 900 mins I'll never ever use.
