The promise of updates, Sept 15,2013

Well this being the 16th kills the credibility of that. All bogus till it actually happens. One thing I have learned over the past few years. Don't believe it till ya see it and then maybe still question it. LOL :D

I don't think the date on the title was a date for the update, just a date for the discussion.

There's a lot of smoke surrounding this update, so I think it is likely to happen. When, is a different question, though. ;)

In answer to your questions:
1. The date is the discussion date to keep it current.
2. If you go to the Verizon site by my link, the PDf says, "Improvements have been made to SIM card detection"
3. Verizon confirmed it by saying it on their website. If you click or tap the link,"Software Update...", it will bring you to the information all about it. Of course, you will have to read some.
4. As far as 4.2 vs 4.3, I won't swear to either. The differenet places I've read say different things. TechnoBuffalo, where I read it first, says , "Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this release includes the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update also." They claim it is from Verizon and it will have 4.2 and Sense 5 to bring it close to the HTC One.

This time I got it right.:)
The September 13 issue of TechnoBuffalo announced that we (the HTC Droid DNA) should be getting Android 4.2, Sense 5 and Blinkfeed to name a few.
see: Verizon DROID DNA Getting Sense 5 with BlinkFeed, Video Highlights | TechnoBuffalo

It is confirmed by Verizon, see: Software Update: DROID DNA by HTC | Verizon Wireless

I wouldn't bet the farm on this yet, but maybe by Chanukah or X-mas.

The link you provided on the Verizon site is for the old sim card update.

Oh, there's no doubt an update is forthcoming. And all signs point to a September rollout. The question is, who's right? If you believe the leaks from VZW, it's 4.2. If you believe HTC, it's 4.3. Either way, we're getting Sense 5 and a newer version of Android, so I'll happily take it.

Doesn't sound like it will be any time soon. Apparently DNA is at the back end of the year end line. Meaning we'll be lucky if it comes next year or ever. At roughly 4:10 this afternoon the HTC USA twitter account said: "@brianallison448 Droid DNA will be getting the latest Sense exp and 4.2.2 before the end of the year." And then roughly 30 minutes later in reference to another DNA question: "@ChuckBurrow We've already been moving quickly to a 4.2.2 and Sense 5 update this year. Exploring 4.3 rollout."

Sounds like we had all better relax on this.

Are you being cynical or what? Just curious. Because I don't really understand how you can take a post saying that the update should come before year out and the possibility of getting 4.3 instead of 4.2.2 to mean that we may not ever get the update.

No sir! Not one shred of cynicism. In truth HTC is not at blame here. The way this will play out is that POSSIBLY the DNA will get a 4.2.2/Sense 5 update after the ONE is completely OTA'ed (which hasn't even begun yet). That backs things up to probably mid-October and that is optimistic. I would wager some time in November at best. When it was stated that DNA would possibly get 4.3 I believe that to be HTC'ese for "We'd love to get you 4.3 but Verizon won't let us."

I've seen this attitude from VZW before. What this is driven by is VZW wanting us to sell our souls to get off of the retired DNA and buy a ONE. There is no way that they will allow HTC to get us anything close to current because that wouldn't sell ONE's (why would you buy a ONE if you were happy with your DNA?). By the time the DNA is fully updated to 4.2.2/Sense 5 the device will be retired and well over a year old. So unless you want to root and rom I currently think that the best we will see is the 4.2.2 update later this year. And I can actually see extreme foot dragging by VZW to the point of possibly never seeing 4.2.2 . There are probably plenty of folks on this site that know what I'm talking about. I've been with Verizon for about 11 years. My first smartphone was the HTC Eris, then the Droid 3, then the GNex and then to the DNA. I have seen this scenario play out before.

In truth, there is no reason that I can see that the DNA shouldn't be getting 4.2 OTA's right now. Butterfly has already been updated and I don't think the differences in the two devices is that great. The DNA update is probably already certified and waiting. It's in Verizon's court now.

It's realism. Not cynicism.

Follow this guy on Twitter. He really seems to know what he's talking about. Here is an exchange from BEFORE HTC back pedaled on 4.3 :

@LlabTooFeR Will the upcoming Droid DNA Sense 5 update arrive with 4.2 or 4.3? It seems the mobile tech community has split opinions.

Sigh, and I was all excited based on what the president of HTC said. Oh well, 4.3 was a pretty minor update on my N7, so no biggie.

So now you see that the One is backed up to October-November. And that means DNA will be delayed behind that ota. Maybe we get a Christmas present or maybe it's 2014. I still stay we never get 4.3 unless it's from a Rom.

And this is mostly VZW. Not HTC.

Someone mentioned a fix for the sim issue which some people have. What else might we see in 4.2/4.3 + Sense 5? I'm happy to say that my DNA has been working quite well so I'm not feeling any urgency about an update, but they're still nice if they bring some improvements.

Just had something update but not Android or Sense. So figure must have been a bug fix of sorts. About 15 MB in size.

So it's 'by the end of the year now' :(

Darnit!!!!

I was really close to getting that Blue HTC One when it was 50 bucks........
