Honestly I'd never heard the expression "Doesn't know shit from Shinola" I just found that out with Google. I like it though

My parents, born and raised in Oklahoma, used the phrase often. I thought perhaps it was an Okie phrase. Maybe it was just popular to their generation. You will be hard pressed to find Shinola shoe polish today so it's comparison is somewhat lost to time.

Or maybe that's where the expression came from as nothing was as shit as that polish from Shinola. Hence why nobody knows what it is now

Actually, the polish was quality. Doesn't work well with tennis shoes however. I will confess having shined more shoes with the stuff than I care to admit. Spending summers with my grandfather who owned a barber shop afforded me the luxury of manning the shoe shine booth. A quarter a shine pure profit. Wax on wax off olbriarson. lol
