Help The red spot is back!

Has anyone else noticed this?
Theres a slight red spot in the middle of the image, looks -alot- redder on the phone screen when lining up the shot.

nah, its to do with the white balance, its not doing it right!
anti red eye is just a pre flash to make your pupils contract & the anti blink is software (it scans to see if everyones eyes are open)

yeah i'm sure, there was a big thing about exactly the same thing on the HTC HD2 when it first came out, autofocus assist should never be visibile on the final picture.

Oh, I didn't know that was the final picture. I thought you were using another camera to take that photo for some reason. Like you were taking a picture of what your phone was doing while it was in the middle of taking a picture.

I thought it was my phone specifically. Have an S2 since two days and just noticed this yesterday. I already installed the only available update and it was camera firmware. Didn't help though.

Is this a hardware issue or could it be resolved by firmware? If the first is right, I am seriously considering returning mine to Vodafone and see if it's exemplary.

Its a combination of both, its partly the hardware exposure and the white balance and the lens, but i think it could be compensated for in software or even photoshop (take a photo of something pure white then use it to create a mask etc)

Yes, ofcourse. I am going to create a mask in Photoshop everytime before I upload a picture to Flickr directly from my phone...

I bought a new car and the hood is another color than the roof, so I am going to buy a bottle of spray paint to cover it up.

I went to a Saturn shop nearby to go buy a Muvit silicon bumper. Then I saw they had the S2 as demo since two days.

Tried the camera of that demo device...and that example did not have the pink spot in the middle of the image. I am thinking about calling Vodafone tomorrow to have my phone replaced.

Oh yeah, by the way: sound is crap. Filmed a piece of the Young the Giant concert in Amsterdam yesterday and it cannot (at all) handle loud sound. Therefore totally useless at concerts of parties. My Nokia E71 (although the image was horrible) did that way way better.

How did you check for the red spot? You need to point it at an all white/grey wall and it needs to be brightly lit.

Yep, I did. Pointed it at the grey metal rack all the phones are on. And the ship was brightly lit.

Maybe it's worth mentioning it will turn into a bluish green spot when pointing to a dark brown or dark grey surface.

I feel for anyone suffering this problem, it's been affecting tons of phones from various manufacturers for years, I've done some brief searching and found no cases of a solution to this phone or others.

Teknik, try using the app RoadSMS from the market and see if the red spot is still there, I'd like to get to the bottom of this. Process of elimination.
Also is yours unlocked or branded?
Personally I'd try removing the battery while the camera is running but I don't want to be responsible if it damaged your phone, so try if you dare.

edit- Another possibility - could this affect phones if the case is screwed together too tightly (or not tight enough) in certain area(s)? hmmm could also try applying pressure on the camera rectangle area and watch for changes

Its not pressure or anything like that, its hardware. As you said its been present on many phones in the past. I'd say its due to a tiny lens, an even smaller CCD and it should be compensated for in the software but it isnt.

camera fw update didnt hit the spot - literally.

Very poor imho. Didnt Samsung test this ffs?! HTC DHD didnt do this.

If this is a hardware fault, then Samsung QC is about as effective as it is on their TVs...

Hi guys,

Any solution yet? I just bought SGS2 and found the RED SPOT in the center of every photos captured. Too many problems with SGS2: overheating, random reboot, and red spot camera. Most probably will send it back to shop and change it. Should i change to same model or other brand? Headache!

I too would be very interested if there are any more news on the topic.

Seem like all the forums I came across, ask questions and speculate possible cause behind it, but no one had anything clarified with Samsung tech support yet.
I'm quite surprised tho and perhaps little disappointed, I can't imagine a major manufacturer release product with such common problem. Don't they really don't expect people to notice that? Seriously ?

:(

I have this problem on my HTC DHD. Most visible in snow scenes. Still there after latest upgrades of firmware & Sense. Factory reset had no improvement. Too bad. I will test my next phone for this problem before buying. Live & learn I guess.
