Root The right procedure to root - please help!

ok i am a NOOB and need some help, its like i am overlooking how to actually root. i was sent a link for exactly step by step how to root my samsung intercept but now the site is down and wont be up for a while. so i am asking for some help on step by step directions. every time i see how to root it brings up for the HTC EVO. is rooting all the same for each phone or should i stick to the directions for just the samsung intercept?? thanks in advance for all advice!!

i am using virgin mobile and let me say i enjoy having a smartphone with such a cheap plan, but i do need help and thank you for putting me in the right place. thanks.oh and i also use linux mint on my computer so anything else that might help with that please let me know. thanks

Well - I never leave well enough alone. So... now you're in the Virgin Mobile Intercept thread.

I've searched here for some additional threads for you.

One popular thing I've found is a temporary root using z4root - many Android users use that and gain root advantages, such as app management and new app installs. However - it will not let you install a new custom rom so far as I know. The temporary part is that when you reboot your phone, the root access is gone - but it's a simple procedure and easily re-invoked.

well i apreciate all the help...the forum you sent me to is actually the one i was sent and it is down. i guess i will just keep reading and await the directions so i can do it right. anyways still could use some help with any advice for a non temp root. (if at all possible) and if anyone runs linux mint 10 advice would be great if its any different to root from windows. thanks!


P.S. yes Linux, not sure how many others use it, but i dont care for Windows anymore after using Linux..its a much better OS and is so much easier if you know what your doing..i have used Linux so long i am very rusty with Windows...last Windows i used was Windows XP svp1 lol...although i have to keep Windows on my computer for my husbands "games" lol i just like that i dont have all the worries of my computer getting viruses and slowing down. but please let me know if you can help thanks so much.

ok i havent gotten much help from this forum but hope that someone can now. i went to the XDA developers forum and was searching through to find how to root. i found someone that had a proper and easy way to root but when i go to download the drivers it tells me my processor is not compatible with it. i have been able to get the super one click root and without the drivers it wont run correctly. (i have logged into windows vista to do this and my processor is a intel core 2 duo) ANYONE know what might be wrong? thanks for any advice or help!
