I hate flashing a new ROM just to find out I don't like it as well as I thought I would. I have to restore from a nandroid and then keep looking for a newer ROM to flash. It also sux to have to redo all the customization's again when you do find a new ROM.
 
Got to love the Devs. I remember back in the day rooting my Xoom, I had to use ADB and command line :eek: Now days, you can just download a GUI and or batch file and click a button :)

I rooted my S3 today, using a toolkit I found on XDA, and it worked great. I don't really want to flash a new ROM, mostly because I am happy with the way the stock ROM currently looks and performs, but this may change soon. I'm looking for some pointers for good free rooted phone apps... Any hints?

Once I finally embraced TiBu, it's soooo much easier. I can get setup a whole lot faster. :)
Not to say I'm flashing too many ROMs but at least it makes it less painless.

Not free but highly recommend Titanium Backup root / pro pay the 6 dollars its every bit worth it.
 
With the pro version you can make a flashable zip to install in recovery... That way you don't have to keep downloading the thing from the market after flashing.

To do this, go into titanium -> menu -> create "update.zip" then follow the instructions. I don't recommend making the actual "update.zip" file, but rather TitaniumBackup-what ever version number you have.zip

Oh, and nothing wrong with NOT flashing new roms or anything :) My N7 is still stock but unlocked and rooted (until I get bored that is :D)
 
Yeah.. It's just nice to know I can do things with this phone if I choose. Right now, I'm pretty happy with it as is.

Lurker thinking about joining the root club. Just unsure thus so far from a lack of understanding. I have read the What is a root? thread a couple of times but still learning.
 
Root is essentially a program that allows the user to have administrative rights to thier phone to access alot of different items, and get down to the kernel or root of the android os to install new yhemes or roms...
Thats a short version of root. Take a look around these forums for details on what rooting is.
 
Droid DNA (stock for now)
Rezound (rooted, s-off)
Droid Incredible (rooted, s-off)
Eris x2 (both rooted and s-off)
Nexus 1 (stock)
Droid Charge (stock)
Viewsonic Gtab (rooted)
Ainol Novo 7 Tornados (rooted)
Thunderbolt x2 (used for parts)

That's bout it for now. Rooting is the only way for me.

Never seen one but it looks like it was a gem of its time. :)
Looks like you can get one on Ebay for about $100. Would be fun to tinker with.
 
Some people have had so many devices, i have had 2 lol :p

Anyhow, i currently have a Galaxy Nexus running CM10 Stable with a bunch of other customizations :)

Have only used one HTC phone and it was a Verizon branded WinMo.
If I could only get a better signal out of my Gnex, I'd be plenty happy. Will admit that the HOX is one of the sexiest phones out there though.
 
Never rooted my Droid X, but rooted and ROM'd my Nook Tablet as soon as I got it (honestly don't even know what ROM it is, just used whatever XDA had listed), and have my GS3 rooted, but still on the stock ROM, but with updates disabled and bloatware quarantined. I was amazed how much my battery life improved just from quarantining that Verizon bloatware!
 
Hows the club going mate??

I have just downloaded all the software needed to root and flash my device on to my computer. I just need to wait for my work to die down before taking the plunge,
