English isn't all that hard.
Try Mandarin, now that can be hard. Especially as it has absolutely nothing in common with English or any European languages at all. Works the other way as well, English can be hard for Chinese people, especially pronunciation and much of the grammar. All students learn English in school, and this is my day job.

Ask your friend to teach you some basics, grammar and help with the right pronounciation?
