The Tablet Tavern

"Good" is a relative term.

My mother-in-law (God Bless her) grew up on a rural farm in Austria and survived the Anschluss and the subsequent pillaging of Austria by the Russians. They learned to use just about anything they cold find to survive and I think that influences the cooking. She still renders her own lard and served parts of animals best left unserved. Their idea of vegetables is sliced cucumber covered in garlic, paprika and pumpkin seed oil, or a cold can of beans.

It's unique and to my wife and her siblings it's "comfort food." For me it's ... um ... digestible (most of the time.)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!
The family comes here for today. I've been helping since 7am. The artichokes are stuffed and ready for baking. The apple pie is done. The potatoes are ready for boiling for mashing. Tom the Turkey is on the grill. And a myriad of other things are in the works.
