Help The task manager...Does it actually do anything?

The task manager button or whatever it may be called(furthest to the right)...What is it's exact purpose?

I figured in addition to switching between apps, it would close out running apps completely. That proves to be not true as if you go into the apps folder it will show them still running.

Is it only meant to be a task switcher? For example say you are using "Tune In Radio" or anything alike that will run in the back round while you are doing other stuff. If you want to close it right away you should be able to go the task manager and just swipe it and it should close??

Is this a bug or the way it was intended to be?

Thanks!

I believe it's mainly a task switcher and I admit I use it all the time for that. I believe if you remove something from the list and it does not have a running service, it will stop the app.

settings/developer options/ scroll down and there is an app section. I thought that is where you specify how many apps remain open in the recent apps but no matter what i set it to it still leaves all of them open. Even if i check the box that says close every app as soon as the user leaves it still leaves them open. I am on a custom Rom though so you guys may could give it a shot if your on stock.

I found the developer options about background processes and closing apps when user leaves them to be inneffective... or at lest they didn't do what I expected them to do.

Swiping something off the recent apps list has had an effect before (seeing it removed from running apps list). But I haven't tested it too much. Either way, I think it is mostly more of a convenient way to switch tasks...

Is there any way to stop it from listing all the recent apps that have been used?

I always find myself trying to swipe the apps out of there every two seconds to keep it clean. It's driving me nuts!!!

lol i could see where some OCD would kick in and you're like " no no no i have to have that empty"...because i've found myself doing the exact same thing lol

I've finally adapted to using it for switching between apps though and i really really like being able to do that.
