The Ultimate Hero Battery Life Thread (Tips & Discussion)

All Programs -> Missed Reminder -> Missed Call Preferences (or whatever service you are being notified for) -> Notification Intervals = 1m and Number of Repeats = 10

It was set to 1m and repeat forever.

Ok latest update

I've had GPS on all day, or at least its not been turned off. I have an app called speedometer that I use to time myself coming home from work, it also tells me my top speed and shows a little map of the route i took. It's only when this is turned on that the phone actually displays the gps symbol - so I guess that the GPS has only really been on for 40 odd minutes.

With some big downloads today I'd say I've had over moderate use. I've not made a lot of phone calls. Battery was fully charged at 6:30 this morning and now (16 hours later) is on 53%.

The only energy saving app I've got installed is screebl - available from market. It turns off screen after about 10s if the phone isn't held at a certain angle (ie the angle you would normally use the phone at). Try it and see if you can get on with it.

I'm going to drain the battery tomorrow and then I'm going to reinstall taskpanel, to see if that makes a difference.

According to status I have an Up time of 28 hours and an awake time of 32%.

I'm off to bed soon. Hopefully the battery won't be too drained by the morning.

I feel like an idiot.. not seeing this at all..lol

I only see that I can set the notification via email, voice, missed calls..etc.. but no where do I see notification intervals?

lol

Thanks,

@Fear - There is a possibility one or multiple apps you're running is keeping your phone from "sleeping". In order to diagnose I suggest you do the following:

1. Open market, locate "Spare Parts" & Download
2. Open Spare Parts> Battery Information
3. you'll see two drop downs and a list of apps/services below. The "CPU" drop-down should be changed to "Partial Wake Usage" and the "since last unplugged" can change to whatever.

The top services and apps below are the ones keeping your phone from sleeping (partially). Note that there should be some apps there, but "android" should be on top. If you notice another app you have at the top, then you should delete it and find a replacement.

I am getting a FULL DAY of moderate to heavy usage, without running task killer and with many widgets and added apps. good luck.

I downloaded Spare Parts and when I go into Battery Info, I do not get any drop downs or a list. Did I screw something up?

Thanks for the tip to use Spare parts it helped me see that Youmail was sucking the life out my phone lol. I though it was just the HTC clock widget but after following the tips here my phone is surviving past the mediocre 6 hours it was doing before.

P.S you have to go to Battery history instead of battery information tab.:D

God, I feel like an idiot. I know I've seen total sleep and up time numbers in spare parts, but now I'm only seeing buttons with bar graphs for usage on them...

where do you get the text based number info for total up and active etc. times?!?

I live in LA, and over the last few months I've noticed that every time I take the subway (which I do quite a bit) my battery life is disastrous. I imagine because its searching for a signal or mobile network or something (and I know someone said this before, but I couldn't find it)... But since then, if I set up my HTC widget and go into airplane mode before I get on the subway - its noticeably better - MUCH better...

Well, after 3 days of great battery life, I decided to install 3 new apps:

I downloaded the update for LockBot Pro (LBP had been working fine on my phone, no significant battery drain), MotoxMayhem (game) and House MD (game).

Well, played around with the phone a bit, didn't notice unusual battery drain last night, put it on the charger and went to bed. I woke up and went through my usual routine in the morning. Finished brushing my teeth and it was down to 99%. Ok, not that unusual. Took a shower and checked it (less than 10 minutes later). It was down to 96%. Very odd. It had been unplugged less than 20 minutes and was down 4%?!

I got in the car to drive to work and along the way I got an e-mail, so I checked the phone when I got to a stop light. To my surprise, the phone was down to 93%! That is down 7% in 30 minutes or so! When I got to the office I immediately checked Spare Parts to see if anything was keeping the phone from sleeping, and nothing was showing besides Android System and home, and those numbers seemed normal.

I immediately uninstalled the "HOUSE MD" game (the last thing I installed) and rebooted the phone. It's been about 45 minutes since I did and my phone hasn't dropped a single percent. How frigging odd is that? I exited the game when I was done playing and had no noticeable problem with my battery last night.

I'm going to re-install it later on and see if I can replicate the problem.

Just thought I'd share this strange occurence.

So here is what I did:

Facebook app -> update every 4 hours
Loacations -> disabled wireless network and GPS( can be turned on manually when needed)
Brightness -> very low but still brigh :)
Screen time out -> 30s
Advanced task killer -> I kill every app that I dont need on
Battery widget and htc clock widget- > Ditched it
stock gmail and handcent for sms installed
ditched youmail and locale, after checking spare parts( was keeping phone awake 100%)

I went from 6 hours of use to 18 hours without charge. I actually feel that the phone is sort of cold now when I hold it comparaded to before.

I've had my phone since it came out, and i still have the 100% awake time problem. i have tried everything i can think of to fix it. i think my phones screwed lol.

Have you tried getting rid of your task killer? I mean completely uninstalling it and rebooting? Doing taht and letting Android handle things on its own has helped my battery a lot.

With a small battery widget, I get over 30 hours, with moderate use e-mailing/texting/browsing. With heavy use, I can still make it a full day.

I was skeptical at first, but the task killers really don't help, especially if you're killing everything you "aren't using".

Just a friendly tip from a former task killer user.

so its HTC Sense that is killing my battery?

No, you want to look at battery history and change the drop down to "Partial Awake" to see which app is keeping your CPU from sleeping.

well acording to that, meebo IM was the problem. I just uninstalled that and rebooted the phone. hopefully that fixes the problem. I'll report back. thanx in advance!

BTW: whats the best IM program on battery life then lol?

EDIT: I'm running at 81% awake time now. does the phone not go to sleep while its charging hooked up to the computer even if the screen is off?

What "small" battery widget are you using? Thx

I use Battery Indicator Free version. I love having the battery level on my notification bar. Keeps me from having to unlock my phone to check my battery level (I use Lockbot Pro, so i can see the Notification bar even when it's locked).

Battery Status is another good one that docks to the notifiation bar.

There are others as well, but I happen to like this one.

Here's what my homescreen looks like

Since you rebooted your phone, have you been playing around with it or has it just been sitting idle? If the latter, check Spare Parts again to see what is keeping it awake. I was sitting at 78% awake the other day...now I'm at 12% after tweaking settings and getting rid of crappy apps.

What version of Opera Mini are you running?

The regular version off the Market, I believe.

I came from a WM6.1 device, so I'm very familiar with all the short cuts and the style of it. I love using it for reading forums and message boards. It loads so much faster and saves my battery. I set it to full screen and use the key shortcuts (hold MENU, then use your # keys).

Only gripe really is the keyboard doesn't work so well with it. Usually have to type in landscape mode, which I don't like doing in any apps. Other than that, it's snappy to check sports scores, read my favorite websites, and other basic internet functions.
