The whole "Battery life" thing......

The people who get crap battery life out of the phone aren't using the phone correctly. It really is that simple. There are a few faulty batteries out there I'm sure, but 99.9% of the time the battery is bad because the user is doing something wrong, or they've downloaded a crappy app that is eating the battery life. There's nothing tenuous about anyone's claims to getting a long life out of a charge.

With anything but extreme use, a well configured Desire will invariably last the day. Most of the time I finish the day with about 50-60% remaining, despite an hour or so of browsing the internet/downloading apps, maybe a half an hour phone call, and a hundred or so texts, plus about 30 minutes of browsing RSS news feeds in the evening and maybe half an hour to an hour of playing games on it to while away dull commutes.

Thanks for answering my Qs, I was just intrigued. Sync'ing two google accounts is probably quite a bit of drain, the problem is I need to have both with accounts up to date to at least 15 minutes so manual sync isn't going to cut it. Im testing Juice Defender to see if I can turn the data on for only 1 minute in 15. Perhaps that will help stretch the battery out

I typically get through a whole working day 0700-1930 with between 50-70% battery left with push gmail, Yahoo messenger most of the day, 50+sms, 30-40 mins of browsing and the obligatory fiddling with settings. I find Task Manager by Adao Team invaluable. It is a tiny app, 85kb I think compared to all the others which average a few hundred kb. Many say it isn't needed because Android manages app memory well. I find that to the contrary. When I've uninstalled Task Manager and let Android do its thing, my Desire slows to a crawl and my free RAM is constant between 40-50mb. With Task Manager managing things, free RAM is fairly constant between 150-250mb. My desire runs smoother and faster, as well.

On the issue of charging, when I travel, I now only have to bring one charger since the OEM one does usb and wall charging. No need for carrying multiple chargers anymore. I leave a usb-ended car charger in the car so the missus can charge her iphone and I can charge my Desire in the car on long drives.

I have just switched from an iphone to a HTC desire and to be completely honest the iphone is a simple phone, what you see is what you get no hidden extras, no options for adjusting settings to your liking.

The Apple battery lasts longer for one simple reason...it is SIMPLE it can only run ONE process at a time. Whereas the desire can run a multiple amount of processes all at the same time sync etc etc.

I am no techie expert and in the beginning I also had battery life problems, but my bf who is techie changed the settings so not all my apps etc were running on automatic, plus I installed advanced task killer app, which is great cause it lists all the tasks which are running on your phone and gives you the option to kill those tasks therefore, saving battery life instead of keeping them running in the background and sucking all the juice.

If you have the time, patience and curiosity to play with your desire you'll notice that it is not just a custom made phone with a one size fits all mentality, it allows you to use your intelligence to tweak it to your needs, so be creative and you'll discover ways to improve your battery life, amongst other things too :O)

Have fun! x

Seriously - there is NOTHING wrong with the battery life. Just charge it when your sleeping. How hard can that be? I used to do it all the time with my Sony Ericsson which could go out for an entire week without on charge (given I dont use it too much and my display brightness is on low) but even with extensive usage, it can easily go through 2 days. I just leave it to charge overnight even if the battery isn't that low. Same concept here in Desire. Make it a habit and there is no problem with the Desire.

If you even bothered to read my thread you would have found that is what I am saying. I have charged every phone I have owned every night whether it needed it or not. I was just offering up an explanation to why some people seem to get really crappy battery life and others really good when they are using the phone in similar circumstances.

Hammering it: Spending maybe 2-3 hours on the internet browsing, watching about 30 minutes of youtube videos, sending circa 200 texts, about 40 minutes of phone call, and hours of tinkering with the homescreens and backgrounds etc to try to get everything to look the way I want it to.

The syncing will be what's killing yours. What intervals have you got them set to?
Wanna swap batteries?! I've managed to drain my battery in less than 9 hours this afternoon and its only been on 35% of the time. I would say I have similar usage to you really but my battery just cannot cope with it and wilts. I dont even have any syncs on or anything! Its just frustrating really at the end of the day and I'm finding myself getting 'battery-envy'! I am used to charging my phone everyday and do so as a matter of course, I just wish I could get it to the end of the day without charging.......
