There is a strange grey blob under phone screen

Hi, so I have a Moto G 2014, only had it for a couple of weeks and this strange grey blob has appeared at the top of the screen- about 4cm across. It's most visible with high brightness on a black background. I'm fairly sure it isn't water under the screen as it hasn't been near any water and I tried drying it for a couple of minutes with no difference.

I know I might sound petty as it's only a small flaw, but you want your phone to stay immaculate for as long as possible and this thing is really, really annoying me.

Any ideas what it is or how to get rid of it? I'm thinking it's a problem with the pixels

It sounds like a hardware failure.
