There is hope afterall: HSUPA coming!

It's coming!

It should have worked from the start, but its coming! Yes, I know it is just an Engadget article and may mean nothing, but it gives me hope that they are at least working on it. The only gripes I have about my Atrix are this issue and the weird data disconnect bug I have when accessing the Market over wifi. If they fix these both with an update I will be happy with this phone for a long time. :D

Im guessing they're 4G network isn't even turned on...that H+ is just for looks, cause out here in NYC im experiencing really slow internet speeds, like reallllllly slow!

The H+ is just for looks, I forget the thread but someone posted that they disabled the 3G icon in the phone so it only has E and H+. I believe all the towers are ready for the "4G" but the backhaul has barely been done anywhere

If it were really true... I am in Charlotte, NC, one of the chosen 10 or so markets with HSPA+ active and with the backhaul in place (and it shows as such on the 4G AT&T map also). We are swimming in it.... Yeah, right. The upload speeds are still capped at 300+ and the downloads are usually 2 to 3, sometimes 4, and the highest ever 5 (but rare). Our family iphone 4s have been getting better here from inception- 1250 up and 5 to 6 down. Don't believe AT&T or hang on to hope that the rollout will result in superfast speeds. Either AT&T can't or won't deliver. Get that Atrix returned for a refund and wait on an LTE Verizon phone.

i am a contructor (HSPA+ Engineer) worked with at&t and now my project is in t-mobile.

at&t marketing is pure bullshit. the last time i worked with them they are just starting the PO for the ET-MFX card to load on node b ericsson UMTS cabinet

i am now here on t-mobile and boy we are rolling! we are ahead on at&t.

Perhaps you can address this because it is coming up a lot. Some customers are saying AT&T reps are telling them their Atrix HSPA+ phone will be able to use LTE when it comes out. Isn't this nonsense as LTE requires a totally different radio (700 MHz) and a different chipset altogether to use LTE? The Atrix has neither- isn't that correct?

LTE/4G same thing on AT&T.. i've heard from my friends (engineers from at&T) and boston will have 4G this fall.. and on the other places of new england is around next year 2012.

even on some areas has 4G radio but still at&t capping the data.. actually the atrix is pretty useless.

check this. t-mobile my touch. not too bad right?

I think the best bet to get the upload speeds uncapped and to get on the 4g network they say is not up but it, is to wait for the bionic to come out on verizon then flash the atrix radio with the raido from the bionic. Thats what the people with the HTC infuse are doing. They are getting slow and capped speeds but once they falsh the raido from the verizon version of the infuse the desire they suddenly are able to get on the 4g system that isn't up yet.

I've had company store employees tell me the Atrix was LTE capable, but you are correct, it is NOT. It would need a different (700MHZ) radio to work on LTE - not sure on chipset. The XOOM was sold as a 3G upgradable to LTE device (with return to Moto it looks like), but no such promise was made for the Atrix.
HSPA+ and LTE are totally different on AT&T

Im beginning to really hate at&t and Vzw with all this talk of 4G LTE! Neither one is pushing high data speeds on any phone right now....at&t already got busted with they're BS H+ nonsense, which i'll tell u right now is turtle slow here in NYC. The test for vzw will be when the Thunderbolt drops, hopefully this week.

But Honestly that pic of the mytouch just has me going on what I been thinking the last few weeks. Just go to Tmobile and call it a day for the next year or so. They're network is pretty solid these days here in NYC. And the Nexus S is pure Google....damm u Samsung for not putting a Micro SD slot on there, and adding in 720P HD Video...I'd have definitly grabbed it already.

+1

I was thinking the same thing. Here in the Phila Metro area, AT&T is horribly slow unless you're on an iPhone. VZW isn't much better. TMOB has pretty good coverage and their plans are cheaper. Might make sense to switch for a year and let the others battle it out to get the collective as*es in gear.

Yeah, $10/mo. for unlimited data (web2go plan and unlocked phone) on these speeds is hard to pass/give up:

However T-Mo signal may struggle penetrating some buildings. While I get "full bars" with my T-Mo "3G radioed" phones, outside in the parking lot, once inside, signal suffers considerably, "sometimes" dropping to 1-2 bars of Edge, or total loss of signal.
