Root TheUltimateDroid 2.0.0 !

Getting endless boot with Slayher's LV 1.2 kernel... Gonna try Chevy's ulv 1.2 now to see how it works, so far I love UD. The only problem I have come across is that I can't install a new keyboard, wanted to install swype using UD settings but it keeps force closing.

Nobody actually expected an UD update to be punctual, did they?

I was pretty bent about how long it took UD to release 2.0.0. But I'm not so concerned about the delay with this "update". First of all, we didn't hear that the update was going to be released from the horse's mouth. There's no talk of an update on UD's facebook page, or the website. If there is, I haven't seen it. Just hear-say from someone named "tech" on another site.

I'm really lovin this ROM in the meanwhile. No camera or bluetooth issues. Nothing. Just smooth sailing, with the stock kernel, no FCs, and nice battery life.

i agree. the only small bug i've noticed in almost a week's worth of use is the lockscreen music controls being smooshed off to the left of the screen and basically unusable. annoying, yes, but not even close to a deal breaker for me. I used to hate on UD, but i'm a huge fan now.

My music controls do the same thing. The only other annoyance for me is when I set custom colors from notification LED, no matter what the blink rate I set, it gets stuck "on" when I get a notification. Right color, but solid on until I check whatever it is, then it turns off. Wont Blink :( Other than that, its been fantastic so far, better battery life than UD 1.0 as well. Ideas on the LED thing shy of a wipe and reinstall?

I've never mentioned this before, but I have yet to have one, single ROM be able to blink my LED. It's just never been an issue for me so I don't care whether it blinks or just remains on.

hibrad2005/messenger13-

Out of curiosity have you tried with all 4 colors available? I get red and blue to flash but green and yellow refuse to. Just food for thought.

My colors flash, but they seem to be on a 30 seconds on and 30 seconds off cycle. When I last wiped and reflashed UD2.0.0, due to a different issue, I didn't even touch the UD settings for the LED and it still does it.

not sure whats up, but I wiped and reinstalled, gmail app working great this time around, but LP won't see the SD Card. Nothing else has issues seeing it but LP so no homescreen backups and worse, couldn't restore.

Other than that. theres that UD that I loved, so freakin fast even on the stock kernel!!

I have not noticed the SD card issue with UD 2.0.0 and I have reflashed (with triple wipes each time) multiple times to try to fix my gmail issue (which still isn't working properly). I do know that when I have had any SD card errors, I just power down, remove SD card, power on, power down, insert SD card, power on and it is fixed.

FWIW, Ultimate Droid just posted on his fb page:

"Sorry guys, to be honest I had to either choose between the light bill or the keeping the forums up. The site may be down until I can afford to get it back up."

:(

That's a sad testimony to all the people who have downloaded his ROMs and NOT donated... if half the downloads had come with a $5 or $10 donation he'd be set in light bills!

That does suck! I think I'm gonna have to go donate again just to try to help out.

On another note, I finally got my gmail issue fixed.

If someone can point me to his FB page I will donate free hosting for his site...that will be my donation!

Just found it. He is not accepting hosting offers :( bummer.

No offense, but I wouldn't be so quick to jump to that conclusion. I'm sure, given the amount of downloads, that UD received enough in donations to keep the site up. Hosting just doesn't cost that much money these days. Sounds to me like he's having major financial issues. It sucks either way. But I'm not sure blaming free-loading downloaders is the proper placement of the blame. It's probably more an issue with today's economy.

I have a loooooong weekend ahead of me. Might take this opportunity to try out any ROMs I haven't tried yet ... what the heck? ;)

I agree. If you haven't tried CyanogenMod 6.1 RC4, I recommend it. I just flashed it a few days ago and I'm really happy with it. Most of what I liked about UD 2 was essentially taken directly from CM. The level of customizability in the ROM settings is insane, way beyond what most would need but always nice to have more control over your device even if you decide keep the default settings.

Besides a higher level of customization, the main difference between UD & CM is aesthetic, but CM can easily be customized to appear virtually identical to UD.

After using UD I've never been able to deal with a ROM with a white notification bar, it's has to be either black or transparent. This link provides an update to give the newest version of CM 6.1 (Release Candidate 4) a black bar:
[Theme] Yet Another Black Bar for CM6.1 RC4 - CyanogenMod Forum

I then flashed a fonts pack that is similar to the UD fonts, and I then had a ROM that aesthetically looked almost identical to UD but to my tastes has an edge over UD when it comes to function and performance. More things seem to "work".

No offense taken. The devs throw these ROMs out there with a donate link, without expecting a dime for their work (and if some money shows up in PayPal, then all the better). I just can't help but think of all the students and "underemployed" Android aficionados who download ROMs without tossing a tip in the developer's jar. In any case, I feel bad for BlackDroid.

Have you tried using fix permissions from ROM Manager? I have had the same problem, twice. Once with UD and once with CM. Fix Permissions solved it both times. Worth a try if you haven't already.

The thing I liked best about the newer CM's is that you don't have flash anything to get a black bar. You can change it in the CM settings to black (w/ a CM logo). Funny enough, changing to the stock black theme in UD has the CM logo too.

Yeah, I meant to mention that the notification bar color could be changed manually. The nice thing about the update I linked to is that is also adds white notification icons for many apps so that they don't show up as black on black if you manually change the notification bar color to black.

I think you are probably right there Chief. The problem is the "donation" concept and what it infers. While a lot of us do donate there are far more that don't. The only way around this is to pay for access to the site where the downloads are. Easy fix but this would put a lot of pressure on the developer to keep the roms up to date and bug free. There would be a lot of pissing and moaning if the "paid" developer does not produce a viable product. The "donate" button gives the developer some latitude as there is no pressure to fix a product someone has paid to use.

As it stands this sort of has to be a labor of love for the developers. If they can make a few bucks on the side, great but like a lot of things we do, you have to do it for the enjoyment and challange. If you are in this for the money it has to be a full time gig, and I don't know that it would pay enough to cover the bills.

If it is true that BD is having finiancial problems, well...I feel bad for him. But maybe it is time to put the phone gig aside and look for something that will put food on the table.

sure wish I would have read this before removing my backup folder, wiping, reflashing, resetting up LP and recreating a backup LOL. thanks for the tip, I'll keep it in mind next time round.

Ok, after it all, I went to make another backup, same thing, can't see SD Card. Fixed permissions as suggested by tmc rebooted and presto, backup created, thanks a lot man (or woman, or transformer)!!!!!
