Things I hate about my Desire!

Do you have any background apps running that could drain your battery, or are you syncing a lot?

I would have no problem with a 7am to midnight shift with the battery, would cover it easily I would reckon. That's with what I would consider fairly heavy use as I posted above...

I don't think so. Only day I've had a serious problem was yesterday when the phone was dead by 4pm after a full charge overnight. I think that was because for some reason that day it wouldn't connect to the wifi at work and then was presumably trying to all day. I only sent one text message all day.

Since then I've now turned off auto-sync and it's been much better today - I've got about an hour left now and it's been on since 7 this morning, although again all I've done is send half a dozen text messages.

I'm still not sure on the whole auto-sync thing - I don't know which apps do it and which don't. I assume I could have auto-sync on but set the relevant apps to sync say every 4 hours or so rather than constantly? Or I guess I could just press auto-sync myself a couple of times a day and leave it on for 5 mins each time? Again though I don't which apps would then go ahead and do this and which I need to refresh manually.

It's all a mystery to me but something I'd like to master as otherwise it's a pretty great device (today's SD card issue and sending duplicate picture messages aside!).

Basically, by tomorrow I need to decide whether to pack it up and go back to my trusty little Nokia 6300 or bite the bullet and keep it. The SD card problems today have worried and irritated me. I can't be arsed having a phone that constantly plays up.

This has been covered in the forums. It's not the phone's fault it's down to the 3rd party manufacturers of the chargers. I have the oficial HTC one, works great.

Thanks - I'll have a look at splashing out on an official one. Anyone want to buy a used generic charger that doesn't work well with the Desire? One at a time now.

My nokia N82 would do that. The wifi connection was broken, if it couldn't connect it would keep trying and getting it to stop was a nightmare. Drained the battery in hours.

Also don't cram the phone full with apps that can hurt battery, wait till 2.2 is out when we can store apps on the SD card

Maybe my battery is faulty, think I'll buy another and check that out.

I did try a factory reset with this one and a previous phone I sent back, no difference unfortunately.

The thing with using 3G/3G+ etc is that sometimes it just doesnt want to do anything ie reload a page, go to another web site etc.

I have to exit the browser and try again, seems as though something islocking it out, not sure tbh,

If I do try to power it down It takes forever so I end up just pulling the battery.

Think I'll stat another battery thread.:D Maybe with a difference though!

My gripes:

Battery could be better. I can live with it tho... just.

Shutting down is a big issue for many. I use system panel lite to close all apps before shutting down. What the phone needs is a hard switch off like nokia's and computers. If it stops responding you just press and hold power and off it goes. Better than taking the battery out.

App store is ok but a bit basic. Not as many good quality apps as apple but with 2.2 that should be solved as developers won't be so constrained.

Orange HQ should be burned to the ground for all the junk that is installed as standard on my black desire. I'm sure it's impeeding it. Waiting to see what happens with HTC and 2.2. Might flash it, haven't decided yet.

HTC Sync is pony.

Little things like how easy it is to turn down the ringer volume without realising.

BUT and this is a big but these are just gripes. I would have much more if I owned an iphone or anything else. There'll never be the perfect phone. For me the desire is the best one at the moment and the nest use of android so far. It's not perfect but it's bloody good for what it is. Just think what we'll be using in a couple of years time!

Does sound like a dodgy app there MH75. I've encountered this myself (on the shutdown issue). When you factory reset did you get the problem instantly or after you reinstalled all your favourite apps.

Edit: really unfortunate typo corrected.

Not sure tbh but if I do shut down then restart it will shut down within a bout 10 secs.

Prob is an app but I have also tried killing them all with taskiller before shutting down but made no difference.

Something is making it slow/lag slow shut down dint really want to start uni stalling everything to find out though.

Having said the screen is terrible, someone looking at my Desire today made the comment at least is kind of readable. Pulled out his old windows mobile phone (not sure the make) and you couldn't see it at all in the sun.

Yes it is the worse of the 3 but the Galaxy isn't as good as people had been making out. The X10 LCD actually performs the best.

My major gripe is the dust issue, The unit should be sealed and I am convinced its in there from the manufacture somehow. I am thinking I probably didn't even notice it until the first time in bright sunlight. My other gripe is Orange's toss but that is more to do with the provider.

absolutely nothing useful App wise apart from maybe the launcher changer (which I guess they only added to premote there crappy launcher- I am using ADW though) and slow on updates.

I have no battery issues, the worse I had out of it with heavy use is half a day. The best almost 3 days. Its worth checking especially on Orange there is nothing running in the background from stock. You cannot remove all the stuff but a lot of stuff you can force close or clear the cache for and it seems to help. Airplane mode helps and so does turning down the brightness and not loading pointless apps.

My battery also charges to 100% and stays there. Brightness, turn it up to max in the sunlight and it's visible.

My only gripe really is the replying to text and doesn't send. Can copy text, open new message, paste and it will send to that person. Just so happens it's the person i text the most.

Apart from that. Loving the whole thing, customisation and power is excellent. Charge battery everyday, have become accustomed to charging it daily.

Intermittent cell service at work, means that in a 9 hour shift, with a one hour total commute, i'll go from 100% battery to 15%.

Wifi on and 4 email accounts being pushed on. maybe 30 mins browsing.

Very hard to adjust to the difference in life, as previously posted, i would have no confidence at all that i could leave the house at 8am, get back at 11pm and not have lost the phone a few hours earlier.

Had a few issues but i'm loving the phone... well apart from the random loss of vibration.

It's happening every day or so now.

I hate how it auto syncs contacts with my Facebook contacts, I would LOVE to know how to stop that.

Had my Desire for 3 days now and battery is pretty atrocious. The only 2 things I have runnung constantly is Yahoo messenger and email sync hourly. Everything else is manually updated. I've turned all other syncing off. I've only been able to get 8hrs or so on light to moderate use. The only thing I've changed today is switch wifi off when I'm not using it. I'm working a 12 hr shift today so I'll be very interested to see if turning wifi off will make any difference.

edit: I've read here and there that battery life improves after a few cycles, so I've got my fingers crossed.

Yeah the FB contact sync is shit.

Go to Settings>Accounts and Sync>Facebook for HTC Sense and un-tick Sync Contacts

I turned that off after 3 days because of the bugs (constantly changing contact photos to FB photos even though I chose the Google contact photo, being unable to SMS someone who had their phone number listed on FB as 447... instead of +447... texts from my bank showing as coming from a FB contact because they had their phone number listed as "ask me...")

I honestly think HTC didn't test this feature at all before release as I had all the above issues in the first 2 days of owning the phone!

- At first I didnt like the battery life BUT it has certainly improved from when i first got it - mainly due to the fact I am not using it as heavily as I was at the start

- The small internal memory resulting in limited apps is the main annoying thing BUT that will be supported when the upgrade to 2.2 arrives so its just a matter of being patient

- The screen is poor in the sunlight BUT im not overly bothered about that since I really dont need/use the phone in directly sunlight, also im not sure what rival phones are like in similar conditions

I love you. :D

Thanks, I don't know how I overlooked that. Got sick of it adding facebook numbers that were very outdated.
