Things to do with new Evo?

So, I shall be getting a new Evo soon and I am wondering what should I do with it first? I say this as in, what apps should I get? Should I root? What roms are good? Etc. Thanks for reading.
 
If it has software version 1.47 you can't root.

I would get Homerun Battle 3D.

I also enjoy the Mario live wallpaper.
 
I think appbrain is a must. I browse apps like like they're bedtime stories (lol) from my laptop and select what i want, then just sync my phone when i think about it and get them all. I never have to even plug the phone into a PC

I wouldn't root it unless i had a specific need to
