Ok, first the basics.
V6 is root-able using the all in one package.
If you have CWM recovery installed and get forced to take the V6 update, you will get caught in a CWM bootloop. Apply the boot loop fix .zip file found in the original CWM touch recovery thread.
Going back to a V4 nandroid so far has not shown any issues, but it is still being tested.
A V6 nandroid is being worked on as well, mainly for the devs, but anyone can try it out. The one I will be posting is already rooted for your enjoyment.
And with anything android, I highly recommend doing a titanium backup or romtoolbox backup of all your apps and data. A nandroid backup wouldn't hurt either. You never know what we might discover and having a restore point is always a good thing.

. My modem died in the middle of the night at 92%. I blame all the Diablo 3 people trying to get into the release.
