Things you DON'T like about your Charge?

you cant take a picture while on the phone, it will not open the camera app, you should be able to take a picture and then e mail or tent it while on the phone if in 4G, I was able to take pictures on my BB Storm while on the phone.

Maybe I've just got a bad one, since I haven't seen it mentioned, but the quality of my speakerphone is awful. Anything past midway on the volume sounds distorted and cracking. It's not the back rattling since I took off the back and it's still bad. :(

why does this 1st android smartphone of mine drain battery so fast even when recommended 3rd party apps are put in?

iPhone doesn't require all this
it's kinda like windows and mac no?

android is only in it's 2.X form here versus iOS 4th generation
and Windows7 versus OSX

but really i guess JUST an external or extra battery will work. OK. Glad I can put one in unlike iPhone that is only 3g

1. battery drains fast even with display set on lowest

2. i keep holding the phone in my hand (of course) and my finger touches/grasps around that darn power button and i have to keep signing on with password

i like the physical keys as the other android phones i tried with the touch sensor keys also resulted in my touching them. This phone eradicates that possibility with the 4 physical keys, but the power key is now making me more careful than i would be with an iPhone....A definite dealbraker if i cannot get used to that.

3. Samsung says the physical keys are not supposed to light up when i asked then how to KEEP lit up even for a second or 2 at night as i had seen them intermittently/rarely light! so THAT is a mystery ... SO **** what's up with the backlighting of the 4 physical keys at the bottom for you all ???! ***

4. The maximum usable RAM of 400Meg -- Many say that uninstalling apps on the SD card makes that a non-issue but i understand that new 4g phones will have 1Gig RAM and up

5. In 3g mode in midtown NYC it is excruciatingly slow. Should I have the Thunderbolt after all these days of review and constant recharging at least 1x a day?! *no way to get it greater than 5.5 hours on lowest screen setting and task killer, 2x battery whatever this novice can come up with~

Dislikes:

1) Phone was named appropriately it is constantly in need of a "CHARGE"

2) Lack of different sounds for incoming emails and messenger notices

3) Lack of a full explanation of features and how-to-do common tasks (ie: copy/paste, and screen capture

4) Middle of the night sound when battery is full

5) Random sounds even when all sounds are off..usually in the middle of the night.

6) Not enough on board memory (should be at least 1gb)

7) Power connector should be on the bottom not the side. (we dont all use the dock to charge)

8) Rotation of all screens does not work in all orientations....duh!

9) No auto on/off to reboot the device once a day (helps with clearing random quirks)

Likes:

1) Ability to turn on/off 4G (saves battery life when not needed)

2) Earphone jack on top (thanks)

3) Real Buttons on bottom instead of capacitance ones

4) LOVE the screen sharpness and brightness

5) Android rocks vs. Blackberry Storm2 (my old device)

What I don't like about it?......
It can't open my car door like a key fob.
I have to charge it at least once a day, and not once a week.
It does not respond to me telepathically.
And it doesn't do 3G and voice at the same time (though I've almost never had a need for it)

In reality I have no fault with this device. I've never had any lag issues. I just rooted it and put in a snazzy new kernel and have noticed not much (if at all) of a difference in performance. It scored 1400+ on the Quadrant from an original 900+ score, but like I said, I never noticed a problem. It has always been as smooth as silk. It bounced, it farted, it did everything well.

Obviously the screen and data speeds and all the other commonly mentioned aspects are of biblical proportions in terms of their greatness, so I'll just touch upon some missed or overlooked cool features....built in screenshot, built in audio EQ and sound effects along with better digital to analog conversion, advanced noise reduction for better call clarity and the absolutely best aspect of the phone.......the camera lens looks like the Autobot symbol.
Why they didn't do a promotional tie-in to the upcoming Transformers movie is beyond me. They would sell a shit load of phones. Every kid and their father would want the Transformers smartphone. Hell, I'd want it....and I already have it.

It has screen capture? Awesome!! I have one on the way, to many issues with the Thunderbolt. I was able to get Verizon to replace my phone with a Charge.......QUESTION???? When listening to music, is the charge louder through the headset than htc phones. The headset volume sucked on both my incredible and thunderbolt!!

I'm sorry guys, I have to laugh at some of these 'problems'. Now for the REAL problem:

1) No data connectivity
2) No data connectivity
3) No data connectivity

And did I mention 'no data connectivity'?

Read the different forums and without any doubt this is the single biggest REAL problem the Charge and the other 4G phones are facing. There are just tons of people having these problems. Plastic body? Please, gimme a break. Not getting ANY data when you show a full set of bars is the REAL problem. All of this other stuff are just minor 'annoyances'.

We got these phones for 4G speed and have ZERO speed is a real issue.

If you get the phone and don't ever get the dreaded orange box that says "No data connectivity" consider yourself lucky...very lucky.

Just sent back my thunderbolt because of this issue!! Droid charge on the way, I really thought it was phone specific, so sad to hear its a 4g phone issue. My thunderbolt kept switching from 4g to 1X to 3g ....it was so friggen annoying!!! Why isn't everyone complaining about this? How can the problem exist on all three thunderbolts I've had ? and now I'm finding out it exist for Droid Charge owners too..THIS SUCKS!! not looking forward to my charge now :-(

I currently have the Fascinate but am considering switching to the Charge. When you complain about the keyboard I'm assuming you're referring to Swype. What sucks about it? I love Swype and don't think I could live without it on my phone... so is it the default keyboard?

Hi,

I'm realizing now that I have purchased the Charge what a mistake I made. I have tried very hard to like it but I really don't. My wife has the LG Revolution and I should have purchased that one instead. The Charge rarely stays on 4G and trying to use it as a mobile hotspot is a waste. It's not the service; it's the phone. The Revolution stays on 4G 99.9% of the time and using it has a hotspot is a breeze. I have changed sim cards and swapped batteries and still the hotspot feature works 50% of the time.

Also on the Charge; if I have to call a conference number and enter a pin or respond 1 for yes or 2 for no; the call does not recognize that I have pressed the numbers. I have tried long and normal DTMF tones and sometimes it works and sometimes not. This is not acceptable at all. On the Revo.... No problem. Even though the Revo has it's issues as well; I would rather use it than the Charge.

Now that my 14 day period is up; I may just sell the Charge and put money with it to pay full price for the Revo.

I suppose the question I should have asked is, does Swype come pre installed on the phone?

Yes. I still went with SmartKey or SwiftKey.

There are tons of things I could complain about, but then there is no such thing as a perfect phone.

There is one issue I have a major problem with. Using the stock email app with exchange I can not see the time/date of a meeting invite in the email. I have to search my calendar! This might be an android issue, but you have to be kidding me!

Makes it very difficult to use this phone for work, since my day is all about meetings and I am on the road a lot.

I'm having the same problem. Does anyone know how to get dates to show up as hyperlinks in emails so that I can move the dates to my calendar? This was a great feature on my iPhone that I can't seem to make work on my Charge.

I've only had it for just over three weeks, but here is my list, as of now:

1. Battery is OK, Phone uses a lot in just being on.
2. Slow display wake when pressing the power button, reports is partially related to Class 2 Samsung 32GB memory card.
3. No Main/Home or Application Screen Rotation, why not? It did it one in my car, but did go back to normal until a re-boot.
4. No upside down screen rotation, in remote areas, with the antenna in the bottom, you need to hold the phone upside down to get a signal.
5. Ringer Volume to low at maximum level, I may be getting hard of hearing, but more volume is needed.
6. Voice Volume is not as clear as it should be, hard to understand some conversations are garbled.
7. Volume down button is pressed at the same time as the power button, poor placement of buttons, every time I put the phone to sleep, I lower the volume.
8. Experiencing system screen lags, no responses from time to time, it's like the phone is overloaded, or having to swap out memory to perform the action.
9. Phone only has 328 MB of RAM, seems to effect phone response times, and web page activity.
10. No LED Notification light.
Have only had my phone for 6 days and have not rooted, but am having same issue with the volume as well as the screen lags. My daughter's Revo moves MUCH faster.

Haven't rooted either but will soon.. My phone is behaving the same way!

I've read everything on this site and other forum sites and apparently rooting is the cure all for this phone..

The problem seems to be in the type of file system currently being used on a non-rooted Charge also it is repeatedly being compared to the Revo on several forum sites.

After root, users are reporting as good if not better performance than the Revo

Just ordered an Otterbox case.. My phone fell out of my hands once and suffered some minor scratches.. So I'm going to complain to Verizon about all the issues I'm having, so they can send me a replacement. When I receive the "like new" replacement I'm rooting it, putting it in the Otterbox case and hopefully be on my way to a trouble free phone.

Coming from the data connectivity issues aspect of concerns..... I don't think it's going away and don't expect it too, I had 3 Thunderbolt and had similar issues on all three before requesting the Charge as a replacement. After receiving the Charge I can confirm the problem is either with there lte infrastructure or there lte radios in these phones.
