Root Think I deleted something I shouldn't

cezhart

Lurker
Problem: Lately, DROID X will not download pics from internet unless tiny. It says "cannot download without wi-fi.". It wont download new apps. I ran my AVG virus program & it said there was an error. If you're seeing this message "click here." When I click k it says that "Advertising is not correctly installed." That I need to see if ads of this size are allowed on this device or if I changed some setting.

Possible reason: Like an idiot I went through trying to delete unwanted things on my phone & I remember deleting a file called "Advertising" thinking this couldn't possibly be something I need.

Can this be helped???

First, let's move you to the root section.

Secondly, what rom are you running? Stock GB rooted (605)? (Imporant)

Rather than deleting (bad idea), it's recommended you:

  • "freeze" it with Titanium Backup Pro (paid version needed to freeze)
  • delete AFTER making a backup in Titanium Backup
  • rename the file by adding bak to the end of the file name.

Do you have Titanium Backup installed with advertising.apk backed up? :D

Many times the easiest fix for something like this is to reinstall your rom.

any app that has something to do with ads i delete immediately, and android doesnt require antivirus protection, as writing virus' for it are pointless.

something else may have happened, a malicious app is possibly messing with something
