Think they'll up the data/lower costs?

I'm sorry, but I have to laugh. 50 bucks for ONE shared GB? At least have the courtesy to give say, the 30 for 2 GB amount people got stuck with if they didn't have unlimited data by July of last year. Then go from there. Right now, even using barely any data(dunno about my brother, but I 90% use Wifi) the cost for my Tbolt, brother's Iphone4, and my mom's dumbphone after taxes and discount is about 180 a month. If we change up our phones, that same 180 will get us, what, 2 gigs of shared data?

One thing you have to think about is they drastically reduced the price of voice and texts too, so just focusing on the data part is not entirely fair to Verizon.

Once you add taxes and fees, more likely 2GB of data will be slightly over $180. I will be honest, a mixed family plan is not really a good deal, but the nice thing is converting all lines to smartphones is not as expensive as it used to be.

As far as data, I would love to see a double data promo under the share everything plan like they did before... but I don't know if we will ever see that. Here's to hoping.

If there's a slowdown in sales or they start seeing too many customers leave, I can see that "double the data" promotion coming back. I know I don't have all the insight that you have Antimony, but I would assume that they'd put limits on it in terms of the data plans that would be "doubled" and maybe stick a caveat in there that it wouldn't be renewable when you renew your contract afterwards to limit the impact and scope of it. But, Verizon wants to stay number one in the wireless game and, if that's what it would take to do it, I'm willing to bet money they would.

Good thinking WA_Bob, I agree, probably limit it to the 1, 2, and maybe 4GB plan... The could aslo do a "free" upgrade to the next highest tier. That would solve the issue with possible giving away A LOT of free data to higher plan subscribers.

Pricing at the lower end is pretty absurd but the higher you go the better it gets. For example, previously it would cost $90 to get 2GB data for 3 people. Now you get 8GB for $90.

There shared plans are meant for family plans. This would be 2 or more phones. The thinking is on the old plan, if you had 2 smart phones on a family plan it cost $60. ($30 x 2) Of course this was for unlimited data but if you were an extremely light user of data, say less than 1GB, then the new shared data plan is $10 cheaper.

Of course, an individual doesn't benefit from shared data because there is no one to share with. That's what the individual plans are for and the tiered data plans.

Good luck everyone, :smokingsomb:

Verizon and AT&T use to try to one up each other to bring the customer more value, in today's economy they seem to be trying to one up each other to see how far they can push screwing the customer over. That's progress for you!:)

I just got a noticed on my phone that I will need to manually check my data using the My Verizon Data app. It used to automagically update itself, and it will no longer do that.

I guess with the new shared data plan going on, they hope users will go over their limit if they don't keep an eye on the data usage.

Go figure!

I assume your talking about Verizon data monitoring home screen widget. There is a new one is the works, but its pretty low that they didn't have it ready when shared data hit.

Indeed, but it's par for the course. When I got a Thunderbolt after it first came out, the My Verizon App didn't even work on it for a long time. At least you can manually check this time around so they're improving. I expect they're be a new one soon also, but in the meantime at least you can check.

Mine still seams to be automatically updating my data usage. But then I have an "X" which is of course an old 3G phone. It seams to update approximately every 3-4 days. It was showing my usage as of 6/26/12 earlier and now it shows as of 6/30/12.

Patiently/impatiently waiting for the release of my next phone. (which will undoubtedly be a 4G phone)
