Thinking about getting a GSII

Hi!

I'm currently an iPhone user. I've been a fan since the beginning but I always left an eye open at Android's community.

And now, it appears that Android is way more open, and I really think it advances way faster than iOS. I've been wanting features on iOS that Android implemented months ago... I'm really tired of all that proprietary BS from Apple.

I've look up lots of Android phones, and it appears that the GSII is currently the best overall. But I have ONE worry : GAMES.

I've been reading tons of articles and forum posts about it being a bit ******ed about games. Is it right? Is there any better phones out there? The GSII seems very powerful and I read something about Chainfire (something to play Tegra games?).

I currently need some advice, because I'm have to purchase a new phone this week as my 3GS is fading away hehe.

Any useful advice is very welcome!

Thank you.

- Tom

the games issue is only a problem for tegra based games. its not a big deal IMO because firstly they games are not actually that good (gamesloft games are far superior) secondly the S2 is yet to be released in america once it sells well there devs will flock to make more apps for the s2

First, thanks for your answer!

Do you have any example of Tegra based games? I thought gameloft used Tegra, I guess I was wrong! Hopefully!

So the majority of Gameloft games work fine nowadays?

Not yet released? I'm in Canada, and I played with one and it's availaible right now go here for example : Phones - Virgin Mobile Canada

I hope that's really the right phone hahaha...

Thanks again!

That's the right phone. I know because I have the Virgin SGSII. Bell has it as well, but it hasn't been released in the US.

yes, gameloft games work fine. some of them do, at least.. a couple dont. i think there's a fix to play tegra games on the SGS2... so if ur really into gaming, im sure u'll make it work. its a great phone with a super screen :D its great for gaming

the tegra only games are only because nvidia payed certain devs to develop games (mostly just the HD versions) only for the tegra based devices. this totally the wrong thing to do but anyway

here is tegrazone website
Tegra Zone ? Discover and Get the Best Games for Android and Tegra-Powered Devices

some of the games have already been coded for other devices
such as
Samurai II: Vengeance
Dungeon Defenders: FW Deluxe

however Gameloft game IMO a hell of a lot better with quality titles all the way through there are so games that dont work but the ones that do are well worth it i got a couple for 99p during there sales :D

After moving from iPhone 4 to the SGS2, i will think gaming wise iphone is far superior. Comparing side by side with the same games from Gameloft i.e. Nova2, Asphalt 6, the iPhone 4 version is much detailed (optimised for Retina Display) though SGS2 has Amoled, the color saturation is better but the details are missing badly.

And i missed my Streetfighter Volt, Hanging with friends, etc from iOS.

Overall, gaming is still superior on iPhone imho.
