Thinking about going naked

I have always preferred to go naked and never really had an issue. I do use a case that turns the phone backwards so the back faces out. But otherwise, I think these devices work much better without protectors, covers, cases, etc.

When I got my first touchscreen phone, the LG Dare, I went overboard trying to protect it. Granted, it had a plastic screen, not the glass that you find on most touch devices these days. I bought pack after pack of screen protectors, usually two at a time because I'm apparently inept at putting the things on. They'd get scratched up, I'd buy more, etc.

With my BB Storm I didn't use any cases or screen protectors and all was well. It's also nice not to have a silicone sleeve that gets stuck in your pocket, or enough protective gear to almost double the phone's actual size.

Now, with my Eris, I wouldn't dream of using screen protectors or cases. It's just not needed provided you don't keep sharp keys and whatnot in your pocket with the phone.

Ah yes, I see that now. Yeah yeah, that's what I meant. It's plastic glass. Yes, it's a new material. :o

"Resistive touchscreens are composed of several layers of plastic, and input is registered when two of these layers become joined by the external pressure of a finger or stylus, creating an electrical connection.

Capacitive touchscreens are traditionally a glass panel coated with a transparent conductive material. As the human body conducts electricity, any touch on the surface of the screen triggers the electric field and registers the location of the input. Capacitive touchscreens can more readily accept continuous input across the surface, and also track multiple fingers on a single display."

Resistive Vs. Capacitive Touchscreens, What’s The Difference?

HTC Driod Eris has a capacitive touchscreen. Why would you think it's plastic?

The eris is pretty awesome with no case, but I just don't trust myself without a case. It sucks, I have verizon case and it's a real pain in the butt getting the phone in and out of my pocket.

After six months of using the Zagg protector, this thread convinced me to take it off and go naked. Man, the screen feels so smooth and slippery! I'm still using the ribbed 2-piece holster/case from Verizon, though.

I roll the same way. Love the feel of the bare GLASS.

I also like the ribbed case. Makes it feel more "grippy".

WE'RE GOING STREAKING!!!!!!!

I've now gone through a few handsets because of various issues. Knowing the last one would be replaced because of a bad earpiece I decided to go without a case and screen protector for a few days. I have to say it was pretty nice. The screen is so slick without a screen protector and generally quite a bit more resistant to fingerprints. It also feels perfect in the hand. The Seidio Innocase I have is about as small as you can get in a case and yet it still adds enough bulk to notice a difference.

The only problem I have is that it seems a lot of dust and dirt seem to collect in the corners of the phone where the back snaps onto the body. And I noticed more dust was getting under the back cover when I wasn't using a case. That's a bit of a concern. I also know that the little chrome accents tend to scuff and scratch when you look at them the wrong way. And of course there is the issue of scratching the screen. Seems fairly unlikely with care. But it doesn't take but a tiny piece of sand or something to make a nice mark.

Just wondering, for those of you who don't use a case or screen protector, how is your phone holding up overall? Any problems with dust in the phone? Any major screen scratches? Are the chrome accents looking pretty rough? I've had the model itself for a few months and don't feel quite as stressed about going naked. Time is flying fast anyway and i'll be up for another annual upgrade in December.

Thanks.

I was using screen protectors, though they always had bubbles in them. Now, I have a devoted pocket for my phone. My phones used to always get scratched and everything with deep gashes in them. Now, I just keep 1 pocket just for my phone. You should try it, it's probably going to be hard at first to do, though you'll get used to it. I have though in the beginning I hated doing that.

Also, the exterior is looking good. I constantly throw (all of) my phone(s) up and catch them. Sometimes, I just don't catch them... This leads to a nick here and there. If I didn't do that though, it would be in mint condition and look new.

There are 2 scratches on it. One is noticeable (near the "menu" button) and the other is hardly noticeable. I got pissed at the screen protector so I took it off and put my phone in my pocket with my pens. Pens scratch the shit outta phone screens, though this one isn't that bad.

Just don't **** up and you can do good without a screen protector.

I have an Eris and I work in landscaping and construction, in addition I have a one and a half year old. Ive dropped it in dirt, mulch, cement, mud, and water. My daughter plays with it and she drools on it, chews it, and throws it on our hardwood floors. I take it into the shower with me so I can listen 2 music and it always gets wet....even after all this it works as perfect as the day I activated it, the screen isn't scratched and the case is still mint. I don't use screen protectors and I don't own a case. It's never given me any problems, its stood up amazing to the hell I've put it through, I love my Eris :)

I use a leather case and carry the phone in the phone pocket of my Carhartts. No screen protector. So far so good. I always wipe the screen side of the case to make sure there is no sand on it. I'm in the high desert so sand and cinders are a concern.

I've got the silicon case and another hard case for mine......they're both sitting in the gadget drawer in my desk. I do use the silicon cover when I'm driving long distance, it grips the console perfectly while using NAV.
Other than that....naked.

I have a cheap Verizon branded screen cover on mine and I should probably trash it. Other than that, I keep the phone in a hip holster throughout the day. The phone is still pretty much naked when I want to use it, yet it is protected by the holster when I go about my day.

I have had my Eris since November and never used a screen protector. I don't think I would like the feel of it. My screen is still as unblemished as the day I got it. I used t use a silicone case but have been going completely naked for the past couple of weeks and it is great. I use a holster with my naked eris when i am at work or out somewhere and the phone doesn't fit in the holster with the silicone case. I am generally pretty easy on my phones, don't often drop them, so I am not too worried. It was a little slippery at first (compared to the silicone) but you get used to it. It feels so much better, perfect in your hand without any kind of case. Even the silicone cases add a lot more bulk to the phone than you realize.
