Root Thinking About Rooting - I have questions

ucla54

Lurker
So I've read a lot of Forums, and I can't find a clear answer. It seems everyone has a slightly different way to explain the questions I'm looking for.

1. Where is a clear cut way to root the Epic 4g. I mean, the official way. I keep reading, you can do this and/or that......what's the cleanest way. Link?

2. If I root, can I leave the ROM as is. All I really want to root for is adding teathering.

3. Will rooting effect what I can download off of the market, or what I have purchased already.

4. Can I still get sprint updates (i.e. Gingerbread is coming out soon, will I be able to get that).

5. Will rooting affect the GPS? or Flash?

You can reply here or e-mail me directly at " ucla 54 @ yahoo . com"

1. There is no "official" way to root, since rooting voids your phone's warranty. To me, the "cleanest" way is the one-click-root method.

2. Yes, you can root without having to install either a ROM or kernel. You will need a rooted kernel, though, if you want to use wireless tethering. The stock kernel does not support tethering.

3. Rooting will have no affect on the Market. All your Market apps are linked to your Google account.

4. Pretty sure but not 100% sure the answer to this is yes.

5. Rooting should not affect GPS or Flash. GPS may be affected if you install a kernel or ROM, however.
