Root Thinking about rooting, need help!

So, I am thinking about rooting my Epic mainly because I want the skipping keystrokes issue on the slide out keyboard fixed. So, what do I have to do after I root my Epic to fix that problem? Or is it already fixed when I root? Thanks.

It's safest to always back everything up.

The one click, if it works correctly, will not change any settings, delete any apps nor delete any pictures, etc.

Okay so I tried to root my phone. Everything went well, I downloaded the one click root file and the drivers I would need. I installed the drivers, but when I plugged in my phone, my computer does not recognize my phone? Nothing comes up at all and yes usb debugging is on. Help please!

Make sure you restart your computer after installing the drivers even though it didn't ask you to.

This is really starting to frustrate me! I installed the drivers on my computer and all went well. Then I plugged in my phone (in the back usb port) and it says that it needs to install the drivers again so it can recognize my phone. So, I hit the install button and it has been an hour and it still is not done installing! What?!?

Can anyone help me with my problem? It is really upsetting me! :( I have no idea why the drivers will not install on my phone. Thanks.

I have similer issues. My home dell won't do much of anything with my phone. Have to use my brothers or friends computer anytime I need to do that stuff. Also use the bluetooth to transfer files.

Yes I am. I really have to buy a better USB cable? Why can't Samsung make the stock ones work?

If you have another micro usb cable around (like an old blackberry cable that is micro usb, etc) you can try that. The one that Samsung provided isn't great, it works for most but some people have had problems with it. You can also tried a different USB port on your computer. If you installed the drivers and the computer isn't recognizing the phone, it could be a problem with either the usb port, or the data cable.

I wish I knew the answer as to why the Samsung cable is having issues. I had a USB to micro usb cable that I charge my wireless mouse with that worked well for my phone and connecting it to my computer.

The stock Samsung cable works fine for me. I've also used a stock Garmin mini usb cable (with rf filter) and a motorola mini-to-micro usb adapter which also worked fine. I had a Rocketfish micro usb cable that didn't work at all, however. It's funny how nit-picky technology can be sometimes.

I have a question...if I root my phone and lets say Gingerbread comes out next week for it, will I have to unroot to get the update?

Depends on what you what you do after root. If you root and stay completely stock then you will get the update. If you throw a rom on your phone then you wont, but you can always odin back to stock to get the update and re-root or wait for a new rom to come out that is based on the update.
