thinking about updating to 2.29.405.5

the phone has notified me of the update a while ago but i always just ignore it after hearing about the problems. but has anything changed now? is it safe to upgrade on my debranded, unlocked telus desire via OTA? if not, i've also heard about the RUU method but i'm still not sure how that method works. can someone tell me step by step how to do it? thanks

You'll not update OTA on a debranded. This update doesn't work that way.

It will work with an RUU (Same process as debranding) but it will wipe your phone.
