Thinking of getting one...

My daughter is coming up to upgrade time, wants to get rid of her Verizon Blackberry and is looking at the TB. Any problems we should know about?

(I wish I knew about this place before I got my Captivate and all the problems it has - I wouldn't have)

Reading through the forum should give you an idea of the problems people are having. Bad battery life seems to be the biggest complaint although I easily make it through a day and a half. Mashed in power button is the next complaint but alpso doesn't effect everyone.

I came over to the thunderbolt from a Droid X. I have been very happy with it. I did however, root and flash a Rom within 5 hours of taking from the FedEx man. But overall it has been a good phone even without 4G in my area

Like odnerd said, the battery life can be crappy depending on what you're doing, also the power button can sometimes recede into the bezel and become hard to press, however, you can take your phone back to a verizon store and they'll most likely replace it as long as you have insurance on it, or it's still under a warranty. Another issue I've seen around the forums is small gaps between the bezel and screen. A few members have reported light leaks at the bottom of their screens, and others, like myself, just have a small gap at the top of the screen where a clip didn't connect.

Overall there aren't many serious problems like overheating...that I've heard of anyway. I'm going on having the phone for 3 days now and so far I love it. It's really quick and responsive. Just make sure you get a good case and screen protector for it. Also, you may want to get a car charger as well just in case your battery gets low while you're in the car. One more thing I should say is that the screen can sometimes be highly sensitive to electricity. I can hover my finger over the screen while in a text message, and it'll press a letter for me before i even touch the glass, though I've heard a pretty thick screen protector can fix that issue.

Lots of people complain about it....Get it, try it for 13 of your 14 days and then make a decision. Its a great phone.

Unrooted I am at 14% battery after 14 hours.

Had my screen set mid brightness, all stock syncs off other than email (email set to refresh when opened) played about 20 minutes of angry birds, ten or so calls, a bunch of texts, light web browsing, light market browsing, etc.

Was worried about the battery too coming from a rooted Droidx, but it seems to last plenty long if configured properly for your batteries needs.

Came from a Rooted DX and LOVING this phone.. The Battery does require a little more thought as it doesn't last quite as long as the DX's.. But overall WELL WORTH the price of admission!!

I LOVE this phone.

I haven't had any major issues with it yet, other than the squeaking, which there's a thread about somewhere. It's hardly an issue, just a minor annoyance.

I got the 2700mAH battery and had it going for 76 hours before I had to recharge. That was on light-moderate use, and mostly on WiFi, but still, daaaaaamn.

Thanks for the input.

I've had the Samsung Captivate since September, so I am well aware of battery life complaints. It's the most common Smartphone issue I know of. I'm able to get 2 days out of mine, but I'm pretty minimalist when it comes to using the bells and whistles on this thing. The daughter, on the other hand, will eat batteries with her usage.

Anyone try out the GPS? How long to get a satellite lock? Does it remain locked while driving? I ask primarily because she travels for work and needs something reliable... and I found out the hard way that the Captivate GPS has never worked correctly.
