Root Thinking of getting one...

I'm thinking about getting a Nook to root and have looked around at Honeycomb on it. So far what I have found is that flash, music, and videos don't work on HC. Or is there an update? What I had found seemed to be pretty old (Feb 2011). Is there a way to know what exactly works with Honeycomb and what doesn't?

Also I'm running CM 7 on my phone. Would it be any different on the Nook besides a larger screen?

At this point, Honeycomb is a lost cause on the NC.

Google didn't release the source code for Honeycomb, so the only work on it has been through a developer port, which doesn't yeild very good results. If the dev's had the source code, they could do more work.

However, with all that said, the NC is hardwired to boot from uSD card. That means you can intall Honeycomb to uSD card, boot the device and try it out. When you take the card out, it reverts back to internal memory. This gives you the option to try out many different OS's until you find the one you like. Then you can install to internal memory for faster performance.

CM7 works very nice on the NC. That's where all the development is.

CM7 is amazing on the Nook, adding a lot of the features one expects in a tablet (such as USB host and Bluetooth) and it's developed and maintained nightly.

CM7 on the Nook and on a phone are very similar. I wouldn't go so far as to say they are identical, but you'll definitely feel like you're in familiar territory.

I am happy to say I just got my nook on ebay........waiting for it to come. In the meantime, I can get CM7 ready to go on it........where is the best guide on how to set it up? I suppose I need to get a SD card first :)

Gadget, *I* would say that you need 2 SD cards (the Nook may come with one).
I think you need a bootable SD card with ClockworkMod Recovery (referred to as both CWM and CWR on the forums) on it. This gives a you a fall-back in the event that you happen to do something to make your Nook unable to boot on it's own. (I also think it's a good idea to keep a backup of a known-good setup on this card, that way you can just boot from SD, restore, and go).
And of course you'll want an SD card just to use in the Nook as storage.
Personally I use a 4gb bootable CWM card (4gb is way more than is needed, but it gives me plenty of room to store various zips and backups on that card), and a 16gb 'daily driver' card.

The sticky at the top of this forum has links to lots of good reading. In particular I think you'll want to look at 'how to install CM7' and 'How to make a bootable CWM card'.

If you're getting a new v1.2 (blue dot) Nook, then you might also be interested in the 'how to repartition the NC' link.

Happy reading.

I have started doing some reading so i will do the 2 card thing........i have a16gb that used to be in my droid x so i will use that as my main card for storage and cm7.........and i will do the smart thing and get a 2 or 4gb card or use the one that comes with the unit for the recovery. I"m assuming it doesn't matter if its a micro-sd with adapter....

I bought a used nook(unmodified) on ebay for <$200 so i'm not sure what version it is or what OS it has on it yet.......we'll see when it comes.

Thanks for the help so far............i guess i'll have to wait until it comes to be sure as to which versions of files to prepare. I'll get a 4gb card though so i'm ready when it does come.

thanks for the assistance, i'm sure i'll need more help in the days ahead
