Well I am eligible for my upgrade in the second week of March. I was planning on getting the Droid X because I have wanted it for a while now and it was my understanding that 4G plans were going to be way more expensive than the 3G. I saw that the Thunderbolt is coming out at the end of February or so. What do you guys think? should I get this new phone or go with the X? and does anyone know for sure about the pricing for the plans yet?
 
I just bought the X today. I'm waiting on the TB. I'm taking a huge chance by doing this and gambling that it'll be released on the 24th. The price plan should be the same as there's no 4G pricing yet. The TB should be out by the time you get your upgrade.
 
The only problem is I am not covered by 4G just yet, but about 5 miles down the road is under the "border" as verizon puts it and another 5 or so miles it is full 4g. I do know that verizon put out a press release in November 2010 stating that my county and two surrounding others would have full 4g coverage by mid 2011. I will probably end up going with this as long as the pricing isn't 50 bucks a month for 5 GB like some have said...

It looks like the new 4G service will start out the same price as current rates, $30 per month. It's speculated that rates will eventually go up. But Verizon just published their plans to throttle back speeds for the top 5% of high data users. So maybe with this approach they won't need to change monthly data costs at all for the new 4G service.

Right now the X is only $50 cheaper than the Bolt. For the extra $50 you get the latest chips, etc. If Verizon decides to discount the X, then the decision gets harder, if you don't care about 4G, front facing camera and the latest cpu then you could potentially save some money. However it doesn't look like Verizon is planning to discount the X anytime soon (even though the "end of life" for the X is scheduled for 3/31/11). So right now, I would wait for the Bolt. It appears to be within a two week window now!

If you really want the X, keep an eye on that end-of-life date. You may reach a point where the X is no longer being sold by Verizon.
 
Also for data you have to look at it like this, if you sign a 2 year contract at $30 a month for unlimited data on a 4G phone, they CANT RAISE YOUR RATE. You're grandfathered into that.

In the future they could change the plans, but you'd be untouched by it.
 
As jayishere said If you currently have the $30/a month plan for data and its the same for 4g for a while and you get that they cant change it. Right now 4g data is going to be $30 for unlimited. It could go up eventually but as long as you never cancel your data plan you will never have to pay a raised price.

As it stands I would definitely choose the thunderbolt over the droid x as 4g is way faster and the thunderbolt has more stuff.
 
:rolleyes: Waiting till 24th of Feb is just killing me.... :D Have to sell my Dx asap........i will be heartbroken in some way....i luv my Dx, but hey! maybe i should keep it as a backup phone?? :rolleyes:
 
Im looking for the TB. But only if i get it for the employee price that i saw which was 404.25. Im not paying 750 for a phone. If i can't get the discount, im getting the X. There won't be an os out this year that will make dual core necessary. So the X won't be outdated until next year. And next year i plan on using my upgrade on either the new iphone(with bigger screen and 4g) or the best android phone there is.

Ha exactly man. I mean it says that thats what the employee price is but I still find myself skeptical on if thats what it really will be.
 
That price was just too good to be true. I spoke to a few of my co workers. two of them said they usually depend but alot oof time you get 200-300 bucks off a phone. But then another one said you get about 30-40 bucks off. Although that sounds like BS since BB has the best discounts around. Im pretty much set. I'll go try and get the TB. When they ring me out, if the discount is no where near that price. Im getting the X. No way i get the iphone. It cost alot more than the X yet the X is better lmfao
