Not literally, but internet wise. In my area/city, we have hspa. Its plenty fast and I'm happy with it. Visited an aunt in a town a couple of hours from me and they are lot more developed and tech savy. Was checking the time on my phone and saw 4g lte. Almost crapped a brick. But these are the differences for anyone who hasn't experienced it yet. Oh, I'm in Greenville, NC

I have no clue how fast it is, because it was steadily climbing throughout the test

Champ, great results! Unfortunately, not in enough locations. If I lived next door to your aunt, I'd get the ATT Note too and those results were with only 3 out of 5 bars.

What I don't understand is the the difference between the times on the phone and the times at the server. Also, the pings, which I realize are at specific times, are 103 to 99ms and are very similar.

Pings use virtually no data, only a few bytes, so ping times don't reflect throughput. What they do reflect is network latency; which could be important to online gamers, but have very little effect on file transfers.
