This Phone ROCKS!!!!!!!

Just getting a little tired of all the this phone is garbage and this phone sucks threads so I thought I would share why I think the phone rocks.

The screen and video is amazing
I have been getting 14hrs + from the battery (stock and extended) with no "conditioning" or "calibrating".
4g speeds impress the hell out of me (coming from a 3g phone).
Voice to text works great.
The keyboard is androids best yet.
The camera and video takes great pictures and video for a camera phone.
Zero shutter lag = awesome.
Yes the sound is a little low but I don't feel its that bad and I'm half deaf.
The signal is a bit low where I sit in my house but all phones have a low signal when sitting here. Also I have not once dropped a call.
ICS in general just impresses the snot out of me.
Even though I am on an unlimited plan I think the data usage stats and limits are pretty cool.
I thought the size of the phone would be an issue but it felt right to me the first time I picked it up.
The weight is perfect.
I don't think it feels cheap at all like some people say.
I love how fast the phone starts.
Pretty much the only thing I didn't like about the phone was the google search bar but that was an easy problem to overcome.

As the OP I am asking to PLEASE keep this thread on the positive side without bashing the phone to bits.

Now lets hear from other lovers of the Galaxy Nexus!!!

can someone provide a link to volume + in the market? is it the one that says you should be on a custom rom?? are you stock or custom rom? it works ok on stock nexus?

...there is only the perfect phone for you at a given point in time.

So true. When I got my phone upgrade back in Sept. I was out of the phone loop- focused on tablets. I made a list of what I wanted:

-4G
-Gingerbread or higher
-VZW
-Samsung (I wanted to stay in the Samsung family since I had my Tab)
-NFC (been drooling over Wallet for months)
-no physical keyboard
-multi-color LED very preferable

I went looking.... and found nothing that fit the bill. Then I found this forum. :D There is no other phone out there that I'm interested in. If I didn't get the Nex, I'd be hanging onto my Droid2 until something better came out, and it was having issues ever since the Gingerbread upgrade.

I like having a Nexus and knowing I'll get upgrades, or at least have plenty of ROMs to choose from. My D2 just got Gingerbread in October. :( Don't want to wait like that again.

My reception and signal strength is fine, volume is fine. The battery's not fantastic, but my D2 battery was so old, that this one is still better. Yeah, I have to plug in if I stream music over 4G at work all day, no biggie. I'll still need to bring an extra battery if I go to day long outdoor events where I'm checking in on FB or whatever a lot- but again, I would pretty much no matter what.

The phone isn't perfect- but I haven't for a second considered returning it for any other phone out there. It literally met every condition on my list, when no other phone did. so *for me* it's perfect. :)

I can totally understand that! :)

With this phone being so great all around, especially in its price range, and being such a huge win for Android - BIG, brilliant, HD screen, top-notch hardware, ICS, 4G, Google freedom right down to the bootloader - how not? :)

Agreed this phone has been fantastic for me

The screen/video is amazing

Haven't measured battery life but I'm able to go all day on 3G with no conditioning of battery

4G speeds are very impressive with no signal los sin either 3G or 4G (im from NYC)

Great keyboard (a big concern of mine as I'm jumping ship from an OG droid)

Camera works well enough for me (not a huge photographer)

Volume is a tad low but I too am hard of hearing

Again, absolutely no signal issues as I did have signal issues with my last samsung phone (Stratosphere), not one dropped call

ICS is just so SLEEK, shames the UIs others lay on top (I'm looking at you Sense.....)

As a longtime iPhone user and someone who still loves his iPhone 4, I'm blown away by my Nexus! This phone is amazing. I havent been able go put it down since I got it.

I was out at the mall and saw this guy carrying around a GN

That's how good this phone is :)

My only gripe with the phone is the actual quality of the display. Not that it isn't amazing, but i'm on my 3rd phone from 3 different stores and the first one had terrible banding at low light, which is normal for pentile but it was beyond out of control. It also had a pink tint around the edges which was very apparent against whites.

My second has less of a texture pattern at low light but the entire top half of the screen was a pale blue when put on a gray background and especially noticeable when typing landscape and the keyboard was two different colors.

The third has very little low light banding but has a slight blue tint along the very edge of the right side, it's there but its not immediately noticeable, it does bug me though.

Compared to my last two it's better than both so i'm going to keep it until the next batch of phones comes around in the next 2 weeks or so then cough up the 35 dollar restocking fee and hope for the best.

Where does the Google search icon hate come from?

Every Android phone had a dedicated search button on it before this. Now, it's just at the top of the screen. It's probably the button I use the most on my current Nexus One.

The word hate is not allowed in this thread ;) I don't like the icon taking up space on my main page so I moved it to another page.

Keep it positive people!!!

no "hate" from me, but there should have, at least, been an option to turn it off. i spend a lot of time customizing my homescreen, and don't really like that widget taking up 4-5 icons worth of space. they just as easily could have put a search key with the rest of the home keys on the bottom row, allowing you to use that top row as you desire. thanks to a 3rd party launcher (NOVA) and a custom ROM (deodexed 4.0.2 by Fabolous), that is the set up i am running now:

THIS is why i love android in general. if you don't like something about iOS, too bad. if you don't like something about android, you can almost always find a way to change it.

Yeah, I know it's kind of the story of any tech support forum. You'll hear mostly from people having issues or complaining and very little from the happy folks. So thanks for this post! :)

As I'm still on the fence about the video issues I see in dark rooms and the signal quality, I keep reminding myself there is so much to like about this phone and I have to compromise.

The screen and video is amazing
The screen is definitely beautiful, but I do see banding on gray screens (e.g. market), but it's subtle. Video in normal lighting looks great. Video in dark lighting that has compression artifacts doesn't look as good (to me) as an LCD because of the way the artifacts are displayed on amoled/pentile vs. lcd.

Ditto, I've gotten great battery life so far! Coming from my dinc, this is awesome. And I'm in a crappy 3G area (no 4G at my folks' house) and the wifi in their house isn't great. So while the wifi and 3G are marginal (and you'd expect battery life to suffer), the battery has impressed me.

4g speeds impress the hell out of me (coming from a 3g phone).
Yep! Even when I have only 1 4G bar, getting 6+ Mbps down and 2+ Mbps up beats the crap out of 3G, so I'm a happy camper!

Voice to text works great.
Haven't used this much yet, and didn't use it much on my dinc either. I'll have to play with it. I have a 4 and 6 year old, and they're usually loud so I don't bother with voice control usually haha.

The keyboard is androids best yet.
I agree, I really like the accuracy and responsiveness of the keyboard. And the haptic feedback is perfect. Not too strong, not too weak. My only issue is that the keyboard auto-correct seems to prefer words that are not contractions. For example, if I want to type "we're" or "I'll" it will prefer were and ill over we're and I'll. Not a big deal to me though.

Very happy with the camera and video. I know some people may complain about the camera, but I think it's great.

Yeah it was a little quiet, so I got volume+ and set it to boost to +6 and it sounds fine now.

Also I have not once dropped a call.
Me neither, but I've only made like 2 30 seconds calls :p

ICS in general just impresses the snot out of me.
Yeah it's very polished, and I'm afraid to see how HTC/Moto/Samsung bastardize it, to be honest.

I thought the size of the phone would be an issue but it felt right to me the first time I picked it up. The weight is perfect.I don't think it feels cheap at all like some people say.
Yeah, it feels great in my hand. The rezound is very bricky feeling to me and the razr feels like a poptart in my hand. The nexus feels very good in my hand and I don't think it looks/feels cheap at all.

I know I've been very vocal about the video issue, but honestly there are just WAY too many things I love about this phone for me to return it and settle for something I don't like. At least I have over 3 weeks to continue to test drive this baby. :)

Thanks again for the positive thread!

The GN is an awesome phone and I'll go as far to say that it's rather exceptional. Yesterday I took my first crack at using Google Wallet, and the look on the faces of the cashier (and the manager she called over), as I payed with my phone, was priceless (no pun).

I've showed the device to a number of my peers, whose opinions I respect, and all have nothing but praise for it, while others want to switch from their devices. It even managed to bring a few back onto the Android camp, after a bad taste in their mouth with previous devices. A simple showing of the device being enough to retain interest like this is rather big, in my opinion.

It's not a perfect phone, but it's an easy 9/10, with a long list of features and little attention to detail which work for it. It's been a long year, but this is a perfect way to end it, as I couldn't be happier.

I haven't installed Wallet yet but my question is how exactly does it work ?
What type of retailer takes it ? is it just where paypass is excepted ?

Cyanogen, Peter Alfonso, Rootzwiki crew, Kejar, our own Fab, and more = you think this phone is epic now, you ain't seen nothing yet!

There is an option to turn it off ;) I don't remember where it is located but its in the settings menu somewhere.

should have qualified my statement: there should be an option to turn it off AND use the space. ;)

if you can't use that top row, you may as well just leave it there. :p
