Help This update is killing me... Please help!

AllyNati

Newbie
Hey all,
I'm trying to update my Ally thru the computer. I've wasted many hours trying to accomplish this. I'm almost ready to give up and wait for the OTA, but I don't want to.

Here's my problem.
Everything starts fine until I get to about 40% in the analysis Section.
While it says "analyzing your cell phone environment"...
it begins "checking the s/w version", then poot!

It tells me to unplug my phone, pop out the battery, restart the phone, the to restart the update.

I've done this close to 40 times now.
Why do I keep trying???
Because once... ONCE (the 3rd time I tried mind you) I got to 50% and it said I needed to charge my phone before continuing. UGHhhh
The battery was even 67% charged but apparently that wasn't enough.

Does anyone have any ideas about what I'm maybe doing wrong?

Possible odditities...

I am on a Mac, but running Windows XP thru Parallels.
My phone is stock.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and may save my wallet from purchasing a new phone, computer and front window.

Thanks to any and all help!!!

Do you you have USB debugging on?
If your phone is stock just wait for the OTA if your having that much trouble with it. These things usually take a week or longer to roll out to everyone so be patient. Maybe it doesn't like running Windows XP thru a virtual machine (Parallels) on a Mac for some reason.

Yes USB debugging is on.

That's my only guess... I just don't like the answer! LOL

Obviously, I'll wait for the OTA if I have to, I was just hoping it didn't have to come to that.

Anybody else get it to work thru a Mac?

Will the lg ally usb driver install on your machine? I still recommend you wait for the OTA but just curious.

Everything installs on the computer fine.

I actually talked to LG last night and they think I might have a loose or faulty usb cable. Hopefully getting a new one fixes my problem.

Obviously waiting for the OTA is my easiest solution...
But I'm a tad impatient.

Using a backup PC I have could also be worth a shot.
I'm simply surprised with that being the problem... which LG didn't seem to think it would matter.
I've been running PC only programs with no problem for years and
can't figure out why this might be different.

Anyway,
Thanks to you all for your help.

Correction:
I've been running PC only programs with THE SAME problems you PC users have had, for years...

That was just for you, xepicxacidx :D

I'm not sure about parralels, but I have had a similar issue with Virtual Box on other devices doing updates. Long story short, during the flash process your deviceID will change. i.e. my old HTC phone would switch from HTC CDMA modem, to HTC USB debugging. you have to pay attention to what's going on in the usb section and make sure and mount the new devices as they change.

Don't know if this is your issue, but thought I would suggest it.
