Root Thoughts from a Newbie old timer.

Android Enthusiast
I am very new to these forums and to Android devices in general. I am not new to computers and the like. I have noticed that a few Devs have decided to move on from the Triumph through no fault of their own.

I use Virgin Mobile because it's what I can afford. I suspect that many others are in the same boat. I am 50 years old and on disability and use my Triumph as my primary phone, from communicating with my kids to ordering my meds from Walgreen's. While not a high end phone it works great for what I use it for, and even better with the ROM's I have found in these forums.

While it saddens me to see these important people move on I totally understand where you are coming from. You develop ROM's with little or no thanks. I have recently become reluctant to work on friends computers for the same reasons. I, in the past, would work on several retired friends computers and receive very little compensation for my work. Then, during the cold winter months when things are tight for me, these same people will travel south for a few weeks to a month and vacation without batting an eyelash. I have become very tired of responding to their requests to repair their systems. I now refer them to the Geek Squad (I know) to fix things. This might open their eyes to how much money I have saved them over the years.

I guess I am just asking that you keep people like me in the back of your mind when contemplating moving on. I understand the need for a new challenge, but you guys allow someone like myself, who cannot afford to fork out $300 every 6 month's for a new phone, a chance to squeeze as much out of our investments as we can.

BTW, Happy Fathers Day to all you dads out there.

Thanks!!!

buzzcon,

Thank's for the Fathers Day greetings! I know where you are coming from in getting as much out of your phone as possible. However the fact remains that technology in this day in age changes so rapidly, and that's what retailers are counting on. It's how they keep customer coming back year after year. If they truly wanted us to relish in the product and never let it go, they would release source code, and they wouldn't have discontinued the product in only one year.

You can't fault developers for wanting jump ship. Myself included I am ready to give the double barrel to the Triumph and move on myself. This phone while a great start for VM, is no where near the quality of Android device you would find on say Sprint, Verizon, or AT&T. The reason this phone has done so well is because the paving road created by TickerGuy and IssacJ! However they both left months ago to get better phones because they realized developing for this POS phone we call our Triumph is simply a nightmare! Even Whyzor left because he got sick and tired of the hard keys not functioning all the time.

So while I understand it's not easy for everyone to jump up and buy the new phone every six months, there will still people like yourself that won't say goodbye so easily and will help add to this community. Since Mobstergunz, and Mantera left I have been PM'ed by several people that want to start developing, asking questions and wondering where to start. So what I am saying is don't worry, no matter how many people jump ship there will still be the die hard few that won't. And those are the ones that will add to the phone and continue to see it down the road no matter how many bumps are in the way.

While I myself am getting a phone with more power, my wife still has a Triumph & I've got mad love for our community of the triumph, learned ALOT here, so with that said I'll be around to support the roms & themes I've put out. I'll be releasing My masterpiece soon built from g60madman's latest build, ( You the man g60madman). & I got a special request for a froyo theme, hell that's why I do this stuff for the community. :D

This is so true. I remember my first computer, I cannot recall the speed of the processor, but it had a 40MB hard drive, a whopping 16MB of Ram and ran MSDos. This was back in 95 I believe and Windows 3.1 was common and Windows 95 was just being released.

I am glad you read my post as intended. It was meant as a thank you and a plea to stick it out with us Triumph users/abusers :hello:

Altho i am not a developer i understand all things being discussed here, like you buzzcon, im a computer type of guy, im only 25 but i get all of this, i took computer programming when i was in high school and learned C/C++, Visual basic, very basic html, no java at all, and when looking at the codes for our device i can only make sense of half of it and thats when im really trying lol, so i fully understand the fustration devs face even tho ive never developed for our phones myself, and i also fix computers for friends who often think since i know so much and since to me fixing it isnt to hard that i shouldnt be compensated for my efforts, even tho anyone who has fixed a pc, or even just wiped and reinstalled windows knows how time consuming and tedious of a task it is, i went the same route you took lol, after sending a few people to the only technical computer repair place, geek squad (makes me laugh lol) and them seeing that they will charge something like $200 sometimes before they even look at the machine has cause most people i know to respect and actually love my basic wipe and install being $50 lol

To me almost all these things boil down back to the comapanies themselves, in my eyes atleast the companies have forgotten that the little guys can control alot of there outcomes and the life of there buissness in general, but with things like Planned Product Failure, <by far my favorite thing they get away with lol, also the fact that many companies have been coming out saying to "modify" or better there electronic device is somehow illegal, or against there terms, when if i recall correctly the consumer electronic act says as a consumer buying this product it becomes my property to do with whatever i wish, as long as what im doing isnt trying to swindle, rob, or otherwise make illegal uses of said devices against the company or its other users, i can go outside and throw it off a bridge if i chose to lol, but all these things have lead to companies deciding to keep there product hush hush, not releaseing source codes or basically not releaseing anything that would allow someone to modify there device

^^^but this is me getting away from myself in a rant type fashion lol^^

also, love that you pulled the windows 3.1 out lol
