Thoughts on Jellybean a few weeks after install

Hey guys, just thought I'd make a thread to see what people think after having it for a while and after the recent small update after it.

Gotta say I'm disappointed after this update, from looking around here and another site it seems to be no two people have the same experience with this phone even pre-JB. On ICS my phone was perfect, battery life was great and sense was a lag free experience.

After installing I noticed straight away that my battery had took a massive hit, going from a respectable full day off one charge (often still in the green by night) to an abysmal 6hrs. After turning off Google now & hotmail from syncing it initially went up to about 14hrs.. not perfect but juxtaposed with the smoothness I was willing to accept. Now I'm down to about 10hrs before it's in the orange, even with the power saver turned on... keeping juice in this phone is impossible, even when in standby. Things that never used to use much battery when it was on ICS now kill it, music player, browser, facebook and even small apps like my banking one drain the phone like never before.

I've noticed my phone has become really glitchy too, the buttons on the bottom aren't always registering presses and my camera seems to take ages to take the first shot, often spoiling the whole point of having a camera on the phone... again it never used to do this.

I feel the things I've supposedly gained with this update are negated by the things I've lost, my phone was really smooth before so the new frame rate thing means nothing to me, if I could roll back to ICS I would do it in a heart beat I really feel this was an update to far for this phone.

What experiences are you having with your version of the phone, mine is an unlocked tegra 3 version.

I know exactly what you mean, don't get me wrong I like a lot of the changes that JB has made but it does seem to have had quite a few down sides on my phone

I'm about 50/50 whether I'd go back to ICS at the moment

My biggest problem is not being able to mount my phone as a storage device. Used that feature all the time

I don't use that function but I can imagine having something you use taken away really grates. Think HTC have told someone over twitter that it's googles fault :D

It is, actually. Google totally changed the way they handle internal SD Cards in 4.1 and up. 4.2 is even worse, your device will mount as an MTP device by all accounts.

To be honest after reading your message ive realised how right you are,
Even though the people update has improved the battery life overall, when using apps like music player, beyondpod and most of the games I play it does seem to drain more juice than the same app did on ICS.

Im also finding the Mounting to the PC annoying as well,
I dont use it that often and it does show up on my PC so i can get by but they had absolutely no problem with it the way it was so it seems so stupid to change it,
I used to have no problems transferring multiple files to the SD Card at once,
Now if i try that it transfers the first file and then queues the rest up behind it or says the device is busy!

The funny thing about it thicks is some people are having a great experience, no battery problems or anything.. the only good thing the update has done for me is fixed my skipping music problem although I can only listen for a couple of hours before battery dies :D

I, for the most part, like JB. Some of the new menu items etc, along with the "favorite contacts" widget. However I AM experiencing some problems that I have no idea how to fix. When using certain apps, like Words with friends and facebook, when touching the screen, the screen seems to blink quickly everytime. I just figured i would deal with it. But then I tried using my calculator, and when i hit the Divided by symbol, and then the next number, it didnt work. It just entered the next number as if it were the first thing I typed. Very irritating. I wonder what else I will find that doesnt work because of this.

Wow, is it that bad? What was it like before?

It barely touched it, after the 4.0.4 update I was getting a slight skipping but the battery life actually improved.. I never ran my battery down to 0 but I reckon I could've got 36hrs easily. Now I'm running out even if not doing anything with the phone by around 10pm so getting around 10-12hrs, if I use the music player then it just smashes it.

I've done a battery test and it fell within parameters, went app by app to see if I could identify any problem and have reset the phone... twice, just can't get my head around it. The power usage thing is hard to read now since they've removed the screen, it's showing my halifax banking app as using 12% after using for one minute.. noticed my ebook reader app (FB Reader) uses a lot more power now too.

Has anyone had this problem?

oy - go and answer my question in the reset thread (please :p )

Pffft.

Answered. :p

Sounds worse than the JB AOSP ROMs and they're generally worse than Sense based ones anyway. :(

I think I'll return to stock when I get time next week, take the OTA and see how it compares to my current setup battery wise. The only time I use the music player for any length of time is in the gym and I lose about 8% an hour and compared to stock, I thought that was pretty bad.

Weird thing is pres, you could put it on your phone and it'll be completely different, some people I've spoken too are saying it's what the phone should have been when it came out. Anoniemouse above has gotten 2 days out of his battery!! So strange, I used to see comments on here about wifi issues and other little glitches and I honestly thought the yanks just had a really poor version of the phone and we had the better tegra 3 version, wish I could have that phone back lol

I'm not impressed at all. since this update my phone is not staying connected to wifi. I have a bt home hub and something odd happens where when I use the one x and its connected to wifi it disconnects my other devices also.
Anybody got any ideas? it also happened away from the house in free wifi place. Its been for repair once and is going again today...

Whilst not exactly the same issue, similar symptoms are described here: http://androidforums.com/htc-one-x-xl/664918-terrible-wifi-performance-after-jb-update.html

There's no known fix, JasonC is probably on his 3rd phone trying to get this sorted right now. :(

You could try assigning the phone a static IP, or changing to a different wireless channel, see if that works for you?

File me into the disappointed category. Since updating I have been suffering from battery and wifi issues. Had hoped that people update may have done some repair but alas no change in 2 days since.
My phone not switched off overnight would only expend 1-2% battery in the past. Now it's more like 9-10%. With regards to wifi it may be coincidence but it's a range issue I am now dealing with, not sure what in JB would affect this? Stood next to router wifi bars are full. Go upstairs it drops to one bar. Before update I would have full wifi everywhere in my house.
My wife's Samsung phone and my Note 10.1 (now on JB too) don't have these problems. So hence I kinda blame HTC.

That was exactly the problem I was having before the people update and my factory reset, I assumed it was the people update that solved it. have you tried a factory reset on yours??

Im not sure why this would have started because of JB but it sounds like the same wifi problem i had a few months ago and if it is its caused by the wifi antenna contacts coming loose,

There is a test for it, where you press and hold at the top right hand side of the screen when you have a low signal and see if the signal strength rises, although dont do it more than once because it can also make the contacts worse on some occasions, It is however the test that HTC will ask you to do if you contact them.

If it is a wifi antenna problem then the only fix is to send it off to HTC for repair

I almost don't want to post this as it'll make me look a little silly but I haven't changd anything or used the phone differently and it has lasted this long..

wait so just to make sure I understand... your battery suddenly switched into awesome mode?

I'm stunned, I forgot to put it on charge overnight and noticed it was still quite high, only ran out an hour ago! HTC secret battery awesomeness mode activated lol

Same. I got the HOX+ and I was disappointed that they removed USB as storage device. Looks like that did the same for all HOX devices... I wonder why?
