Thoughts on the plastic back cover...

Someone should manufacture an aluminum back cover. I would buy one.

OR...a back cover that is actually a function of the battery, basically a huge extended batter. That would be sick.

My biggest issue with the back of the phone isn't the cover but how the camera sticks out, making it susceptible to damage. The concern led me to purchase a case to protect it -which in turn rendered moot any opinion I may have had about the cover to begin with.

I think it's very nice. No noticeable flex, good texture, fits securely. I can't ask for much more than that. Being plastic is irrelevant to me.
 
I really think htc should offer customizable back covers sort of like the palm pixi that would be cool
 
I think HTC should flood the market with accessories.. where is the desk top charger, t.v out cable? The more options the better in my book. They had to know this phone would blow up...
 
Adding a metal backplate will not offer that much more protection, since the fit is so close to the internal components. The plate is PC/ABS, which is fairly strong and impact resistant polymer, it's the plastic on most phones.

What metal WILL DO, is decrease your cell reception because it is a farady cage. This will lead to your cell signal dropping, which would only worsen the Incredible's already poor battery performance.
 
It dowsn't have poor battery performance. It has a small battery.
