Thunderbolt design flaw?

Then how could they sell you a cradle ... ?

It works in landscape and portrait. Not everyone needs to charge the phone while they're using it. BMX even said it was a gimmick, but a cool one.

I agree, I think they will make the same type of cradles and mounts as the Droid X. They already have some type of Mount in the Cellebrite system for the Thunderbolt. It should be at VZW on launch considering the long delay.

Now that I'm thinking about it that definitely makes sense :)
I still want to buy this phone, it was just something that annoyed me and dampened my enthusiasm slightly.

Stick with us, we'll have you hyped about it again in no time. lol :D

Really? Did you keep it in a holster or something? I had to try and crack open my OG Droid after a catastrophe in order to fix it. The battery compartment was mostly clean, but once you got into the innards, there was all kinds of mung in the headphone port, around the buttons, etc. Anywhere that there wasn't normal access to users but some crevasse where grime could get in had enough dirt to plant crops. It was foul.

I guess my point was that I had it open more often then not so it stayed clean. Wasn't all closed up so crap could collect in it. Blackberries are notorious for having to have the battery pulled to reboot.

I'd personally rather have a slide out keyboard with a tilting screen (a la my touch pro 2), although the Evo Shift loses some screen size to accomidate the slide out keyboard. If I wanted a kickstand, I'd go buy a bike.

Please don't tell me it took the almighty BMX saying it for you to figure out it's a gimmick.

personally i don't see the kickstand as a gimmick since it will be a useful feature for me. i frequently prop up my incredible against something while watching youtube or some other vid i have on the phone. sometimes it inevitably slides or flips flat. i don't think there will be many cases where i'm using it long enough in landscape mode to need a charge, but i see how the charging port location will be an inconvenience in some circumstances when using the kickstand.

hopefully they do come out with a dock and don't stiff us like they did with the incredible.

as for the location of the sd card behind the battery...it's a 32gb card...how often will you realistically need to remove it? i have a 16gb card in my incredible and haven't removed it once since i put it in there. that is a non issue in my mind.

Of course a permanent fix to this is to solder the charging cable directly to the base....or buy a TV that will let you feed the phone's content over the air...

The more I watch the video above (two times), the more it seems folks are being duped into buying an EVO refresh, minus the HDMI port. The bone they throw in is a class 2 32gb card.... Insulting, really.

N900 over a year ago shipped with 32gb internal space. Nokia screwed that up with sucky wucky software support. Instead of giving us a card, make the flash 32gb and leave the card slot open on the TB.

PSX games, video and MP3s take up a lot of space :)

the kickstand is a sweet feature. and how is this an evo refresh? new processor, more ram, better features, real 4G?

PS: The EVO is a sweet phone

I would personally use the kickstand while charging a lot actually. Bummer they didn't put the mini usb on the bottom or other side.

...real 4G?

WiMAX is as real 4G as LTE, as in, allowed to be called that by the ITU, after stepping up requirements constantly for 4G specs, then backtracking and acknowledging various US efforts as 4G qualifying.

Expect WiMAX to die off, but not because it wasn't 4G.

None of us know the future, yes?

:(
Then buy something else.

Make me! :mad::eek::rolleyes::)

What if I WANT to be duped?! Huuuh?!

I bet you never thought, of THAT- did you? I am Super Duper.

I am bored... When will there be more my cousin's, friend's, brother's, mother's, buddy's, imaginary friend's, third cousin said the TB is releasing on "../../.." ?

Those are the best posts. Straight from the heart, they be :)

The Evo's usb port has been prone to breaking from the main board. The Shift is much more sturdy, and it's collared by case firmly, and it's on the left side. In all regards matching the Bolt's close-up photos.

I think this was reliability-driven for the new phones, and I'm skeptical they'd trade away accessories for that.

My USB port on my TP2 feels like it's ready to snap off as well. At least HTC is trying to improve.

Ok, then unplug it at lunch, watch the movie, and then plug it back in. You should be full up by the end of the day.

I agree the placement isn't the best thing in the world, but I wouldn't go so far to call it a design flaw. Chances are there will probably be a cradle that will allow you to keep it plugged in while using it.

At first I felt the same way about the usb location , but I would most likely only have landscape mode for watching sports and news at a pub, no where near a connection and dangerous if there is one. If I'm using skype I most likely would have it in portrait mode.If I'm at home I wouldn't need the stand to watch news, youtube or sports because I am usually moving around or on the coach with the TV on and I'm just browsing stuff. I would like to have a dock for using it an landscape mode as an alarm, like my wife does with her moto X

LOL a big 2 thumbs up on that one!

wow, you got a lot going on with that phone to be swapping out 32g of storage. I mean with a lot of people streaming Pandora, etc. Might be better just to copy whats on that card to your hard drive and save it someone for later use, at least your music and movies. I have had multiple SD cards, and rarely found my self swapping and this is going all the way back to my IPAQ...lol

To me the bigger flaw is the SD slot under the battery. You have to power down the phone to swap out memory. OH and of course the biggest flaw is not having a @^#^! release date!
