Thunderbolt = Droid Eris 2?

Chopstick2U

I bought the Eris on a 2-year contract right at the twilight of the 1-st gen Qualcomm processors. Didn't seem like a big deal at the time, but I'm still sickened by how quickly I found myself unable to run games and resource-intensive apps. Without the dual-core context, the Thunderbolt seems like my dream phone this May when I can upgrade, but I'm worried that NEXT January's killer app is gonna be dual-core exclusive. Because I know I can count on Android devs to fully-exploit the available hardware.

Anyway... I want to love the Thunderbolt. Reassure me?

Besides having the best network, the 2nd best thing about VZW is that they offer 1 year contracts; but enough people don't pay attention or utilize it.

A new high end phone generally retails for about $599. Verizon regularly offers the latest new high end phones for $199 w/ a 2 year contract. However, you can pay just an additional $70, bringing your total to $269, and only have a 1 year contract.

$199 = 66% discount. Locked in for 2 years (actually 20 months)
$269 = 55% discount. Locked in for 1 year (actually 10 months)

If you purchase an exciting new high end phone shortly after it comes out, you can easily sell it for at least the $269 you paid for it 10 months ago, if not more. So essentially $70 more up front gives you a ton more flexibility, and not feeling like you're stuck with a phone for too long.

So that one-year flexibility isn't going away with the new play they're implementing this month?

Also... I appreciate the restrained reaction by this forum to my thread. On XDA it would have quickly been devoured as Kraken bait.

Im also planning on getting the thunderbolt on a 1 year contract. Theresa question for you though... my girlfriend and I are on a family plan, when I origionally joined her plan I got a blackberry on the two year contract. I can change that to a one year contractwheni go to get the thunderbolt right? Even if my girlfriend (the head of the account.) is on a two year contract?

you can change it the next time you are due for an upgrade once the 2 year contract runs out

Nope. The new plan changes only affect new plans that start on/after Jan 16th 2011, and it's only regarding 2 year plans. 1 year stays exactly the way its been.
