THUNDERBOLT in a non-4G AREA?

shocka

Newbie
I was considering using my upgrade for a Thunderbolt (i like htc, i want a BIG screen, would like FFC as well) but I do not live in a 4G-covered area. Does anyone know if a Thunderbolt buyer will be forced into 4G billing if they only have 3G coverage? If so, considering an Incredible and just sticking with it for 2 years...

Nobody knows what the 4G pricing will be, but unlike the Evo, the 4G on the Bolt can only be used if you have an LTE sim card. Perhaps they will sell you one without a LTE sim and not charge for 4G.

Most likely they're gonna stick it to you just like sprint does . It's a shame it's not an option , cause honestly even though I'm in a 4g area I probably wouldn't get it as I have wifi most the time I'm using my phone anyways

went into verizon today to compare the droid incredible and the droid x. spoke to a very friendly woman who was surprisingly up-to-date re: smartphones. we discussed the thunderbolt and she had JUST returned from thunderbolt training. when i told her i liked the phone specs but was concerned about the added cost of a 4g plan she looked at me kind of strangely and assured me that itr would remain the same 30 dollars unlimited plan that i have now. just with 4g goodness... tbd if she was right or not. but it made me hold off on getting an incredible on a year contract.

No up charge for 4G, now that would be a shocker.

Honestly I would not be shocked if it was included in the normal data charges for now. It seems smart.. Cause then you make Sprint look bad and just jack the prices in 6 months when LTE is covered in more areas.

I wouldnt put much faith in what a rep says. I would be very surprised if there isnt an extra charge for 4g

we shall see soon enough. it would sort of be a killer one-two punch with verizon just announcing that the iphone will get the 30 buck unlimited data plan. plus it's an added incentive to be an early adopter of the 4g phones. it's the tipping point for me. no doubt will be an issue for many customers.

I spoke to a very knowledgeable VZW tech rep last night and asked her if I will be able to get a Thuderbolt, but not get a 4g plan b/c I don't want to pay the extra cost for 4g. She said 4g will be $30/month for unlimited data. I expressed my surprise at her answer and she said they would have heard by now if there would be a higher charge for 4g.

30$ on top of the 3g $30?!?!!??!!?! Nobody in their right mind would do that.
