Thunderbolt Launch Day Speculation/Rumor Thread

Where does this stuff come from? Considering the entire premise is wrong (VZW is HTC's customer- not the other way around), this kind of stuff is nuts.

Don't get fooled by which way the cash flows: Between HTC and VZW, VZW calls the shots. Verizon is about 40x bigger than HTC. If Verizon quit HTC cold turkey Monday, we are the only customers Verizon would lose. HTC's diversified, so it wouldn't kill them in the long run, either.

But it's only been a few years since HTC began selling handsets in their own name. For every person who settles on HTC and then goes looking at carriers, there's dozens who decide on Verizon and then go looking for phones.

That article seems concocted by a geek with no bidness' background.

Assumption of course being the device did NOT have problems, VZW sat on it, and HTC (Very customer loyal company) suddenly got nuts. HTC is paid- regardless of the issue (if VZW fault). Also, if product is slowed down for sale and work in process, components and end item stock is sitting around, VZW will compensate for that too- If VZW again, is the problem.

In summary, either way HTC gets their money.

It's not quite that simple... HTC is spending a lot of their own money marketing this phone. The lack of information flow about the cause of the delay may lead some to believe that this is a hardware issue that is HTC's fault. (this may or may not be the case - no one really knows). Under the assumption the phone itself is good and there are other issues causing the delay, HTC has every right to be upset about this. If consumers begin to believe HTC is the reason for the delay, that can cause long-term damage to their brand and hinder not only sales of this phone, but future releases as well.

Sure, there may be contractual remedies available to HTC to compensate them regarding this particular release, but what good are those remedies on the next release when the HTC brand is tarnished?

Personally, I don't think it is a coincidence that several Thunderbolt's are in the wild. I wouldn't be surprised to find that one or two of them were leaked not by VZW, but by HTC, to put it out there that the hardware is good and stable.

My guess, and it is just that, is that the delay is a 3G / 4G handoff issue. And I hope they get it figured out soon. I've had a case with no phone now for two weeks!

Living in a 3G area only, I'd take it in a heartbeat with the handoff problem. ;)

Not disagreeing, but the entire premise of leverage of the article is HTC is all on top of VZW (not) and they are "forcing" an announcement tomorrow, in order to get the device out next week. Not to mention the "VZW already has the phones", which per folks I trust- is not true. Nothing has shipped yet. That alone debunks the article for me.

Tomorrow is but a few wee hours away to validate, none the less :)

someone on facebook claimed that it will be March 10. Verizon Wireless | Facebook
He said, his mom works for verizon store. They expect the phone in-stores very soon. And on sell March 10.

Take it with huge grant of salt.

Grant of salt?

I completely agree. I don't know the stats, but HTC is one of, if not the, largest, mfg of android phones. Therefore If HTC is confident enough the phone, IT IS READY. HTC is not a newcomer to making handsets (They manufactured some of the original iPaqs). They have alot on stake here. I think that their phone has been ready to be released weeks ago. Most likely it is.

I would love to believe it will be the 10th but I know what happened when I thought it was the 14th and then the 24th. Third time's a charm?

Yea i asked our verizon rep in my store today and the first thing she said was "Its HTC's fault!" This is turning into a nasty menage a trois. And lets be honest of the three Verizon is the hold up. HTC has more than likely had the phone ready for a long time, Best Buy did not just pull a 02/14 day out of their ass. You can sit here and tell me how greedy and shady best buy is but they have enough business sense not to promise a sales date for a phone unless verizon quoted them the date. I keep asking our reps and they know nothing this happened exactly when the incredible launch and verizon blamed HTC. If its HTC fault how come they dont have any launch problems with ATT or sprint or Tmobile or any other big carrier for that matter.

Here is the humor of the night. I finally give in and decide to order a new DINC and move on from this foolishness that has consumed way too many hours of my life. I call in and go over options with the rep, which BTW was very cool considering the amount of crap they are getting right now, on either an X or DINC. She looks over the account and notices I called in the other day on TB release info and asked why I wasn't interested in that phone any longer. I laughed and explained I'm tired of waiting for something that just isn't going to happen too soon. She stopped the order and advised me she will call me back next week and we can go over "other" options. Rachel, the vzw rep, said she didn't have release info but would really like to follow up on Tuesday or Wednesday next week to look over the "other" options. First rep I have spoken to that has offered to call me back on the TB. Why does it keep sucking me back into the madness!!!

We've seen this before with VZW. During the Storm1 launch, there were lots of delays and the BlackBerry insiders were saying it was ready, but that VZW kept bouncing it back to RIM asking for tweaks to the S/W. RIM thought it was good to go and VZW didn't. So VZW kept blaming RIM... does any of this sound familiar?

It does but not to defend verizon the storm was awful when it hit the street. I had to swap mine out 7 times. I will give them a pass on that one.

No doubt it's been an epic failure... I jumped at the chance to get the Storm2 for me and my wife. I can only hope the TB is a much better device. As I've posted elsewhere on the forum, I'm desperate to dump this POS BlackBerry.

I have been with Verizon so long they decided the seven swaps was enough. They gave me a brand new DINC for all my troubles. Now I blame Verizon for my android/HTC addiction.

I am a VZW Authorized dealer, and my Aunt is a regional Megan for VZW, and that's the last that we both know is the release date. The only dates that we knew of was the 24th, and 28th with speculation for the 10th it was Bestbuy that gave gave that churned everyone up. By the way HTC has been selling phonesfor more than a few years, anyone ever herd of Audiovox? That is what HTC was called before HTC!

HTC = ACC ??

I don't think so.

Audiovox - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

HTC made the world's first Android phone.

But it's only been a few years since HTC began selling handsets in their own name.

True, but I think it's maybe a little more accurate to say that others sold HTC phones under their own name - like Palm.
