Thunderbolt off contract

I got mine through Wirefly, and I called Verizon and added insurance (TEC ASURION SINGLE TIER ) with no problem.

I bought mine off of craigslist for $375 sealed in box. I made sure it would activate before handing over the cash. Since I was the first to activate the phone, I had the 1 year warranty.

BUT, I have bought used phones off of craigslist and Verizon said that the warranty wouldn't transfer. Since I am month to month they don't have me by the balls. I wanted a replacement and I threatened to sue and cxl my 4 lines and the happily gave me a replacement phone. 1 year warranty is a 1 year warranty, they can replace it with a push of a button. They just don't want you to know that.

I haven't bought a phone from verizon in 5 years, there is just no point. There are so many desperate sellers on craigslist trying to make I buck, that I'm able to get these phones for close to the 2 year pricing.

Not based on my experiences. As far as insurance goes, I agree that they won't let you get insurance when you purchase elsewhere. But for warranty coverage it doesn't matter. As long as it's still under the 1 year manufacturer warranty you can take it to a Verizon store if you have problems with it. At least this is what I've experienced.

They will let you get insurance if you purchase it elsewhere. Ive done this before with a used phone on eBay. The VZW rep just made me make a call to confirm that the phone works and added insurance to my line.

Oh ok cool. I know before they weren't letting people add insurance if it wasn't bought through them or a retail channel because it's not telling what the phone has been through. But that's pretty good they still let you get the insurance.

Your luck may vary, but I've never had a problem adding insurance. Just make sure you get it as soon as you add the phone to your line. It just may depend on the representative you speak with. And if they give you problems at the store, just call 611. I always say "I just got a new phone and wanted to make sure my insurance is still on the line."

They normally say, not its not, but I can add it back.

Simple as that.

Yeah they need a consistent stance on it. It shouldn't vary from person to person. Either all reps whether on the phone or in store will add the insurance or they all won't. Shouldn't have to trick some of them. Just my thoughts.
