Thunderbolts been blown back!

I don't understand why this is such a huge flop to everyone. Yeah it isn't the same technology that was announced for Moto., but it fits right in with HTC and what everyone had previously known. The fact is the Thunderbolt will be the top seller on VZW until the Droid Bionic is launched, it has the fastest processor of any phone on the network, much improved battery life from the Evo and the Incredible and it will be the only high end android phone with LTE capability until the Droid Bionic making it the best phone out there until such time. Then right around the end of Q2 when the Bionic is launched, HTC will release or announce their upcoming superphone whether it be dual core, triple core, or whatever and it will be the highest phone out there for the remainder of the year. Why should HTC announce their superphone plans now and give the other manufacturers time to adjust their devices to outperform it when it launches just after mid-year as HTC stated was the time period they were aiming to launch their multi-core line. In my opinion they have a very well thought out business strategy here; launch the first VZW LTE phone with great specs and a free 32gb SD card and ride out the huge profit for having the best phone out from now until the middle of the year, then just as everyone is launching the device they hope to make their year HTC will come out with their superphone that blows them all away with newer hardware and newer software with the high build quality they are loved for. Then by doing this they will ride out the remainder of the year with the profits off of their superphone having had the most up to date phone out for the carrier for the majority of the year.

Is it true that future versions of Android will be written for Dual Core and won't be an option on the Thunderbolt? If I'm not gaming, will the Thunderbolt be able to handle phone and internet without slowing down? (My first generation Moto Droid feels very slow now and I don't want the same to happen with my next phone that I will be stuck with for 20 months).

My main two choices are the Thunderbolt and the Revolution. I have come to like sense very much and then iPhony look of the LG kinda makes it undesirable to me. I just hope the Thunderbolt has better battery life than my Incredible. If HTC really is coming out with a superphone around mid year then I may hold out for that.

Actually, the Thunderbolt and the Bionic aren't that far apart

Things the Bionic has:
-Dual Core processor
-Bigger battery
Things the TB has:
-Will be released earlier
-Has better software (Sense)
-Better update track record
-More community support
-Kickstand
-More RAM
-32GB sd card preinstalled
Things that are even:
-Screen size(4.3in)
-Cameras(Both have FFC and 8mp rear cameras)

As much as I would like to get a dual core phone the release date and 32gb sd card are the big sellers for me. I am looking to get my first smartphone, and I have had an upgrade since November. I really want a new phone ASAP, so I'll probably get the first 4G phone that is released. Also, saving an extra $100 on an sd card is a nice bonus.

You will be fine with the TB. Heck I'd even say get a Incredible. Do not listen to the haters about this dual core. Granted there will be a time in the near future, where dual core may be needed. IMHO with you wanting one ASAP, you will be fine with the TB. I personally think the Bionic is "better" as far as hardware, but I like the look of the TB, kickstand, SENSE (biggie for me) and the 32gb card.

I predict that unless they can work some mjo with the kernel, this device will suck battery quicker than the Incredible did during its early days. Bet on it.

Bigger display
Faster chipset that is not dual core
4G

Perhaps the 4G can be turned off?

Keep in mind that you have LTE, a 4.3" screen, and only 1400 mAh battery. The first two are potential battery hogs and the last does not give hope of mitigating the effects of the first two.

I highly doubt the Thunderbolt will be substantially better in terms of battery life than, say, the Incredible. I don't get why mfgrs don't tout usage in terms of real-world scenarios:

"Lasts a full day on a single charge with GPS, bluetooth, and constant data connection."

Or something like that.
Im sure you can shut the LTE/4G radio off, the evo has that option for the sprints 4G also. so that is no worry. Yes it might use more battery when using LTE but WE DONT KNOW FOR SURE.

Screen size means nothing. Evo can get pretty good battery life for my GF and the Dx gets great life too. Its about the engineering under the hood, not the hood itself imo.

I wanted the LG initially but after knowing it has bing, that is basically out for me. Not that it wont be debinged eventually but its a bummer out of the gate. The bionic is not for me yet, i will wait til round 2 i think.

So between the LG and the HTC i think i am back on the HTC side. Its coming sooner and they are very close to the same phone. By the time my 10 months of my 1 year contract rolls around, dual core 2nd gen will be here and i will be sure to pic one up then :)

I wouldn't let bing stop me from getting a phone I like, there is always root, which I have come to like after having my Incredible.

You're right about the rooted Incredible. Mine is just about perfect, a big screen would be nice, but I can wait for Q2 phones.

But I will be getting a Thunderbolt for my wife's birthday, so I'll still get to have the fun of rooting it!

right, but what does the LG have over the htc, i cant find much really

LG just does not sit well with me. Reminds me of all the LG Dare, Chocolate etc etc that I have bought my daughter....Never liked LG. Just seem cheap.

Not saying these new phones are but to me it has the Kmart appeal to it.

True, the only thing keeping me skeptical of the Thunderbolt is the battery life. Blackmanx keeps saying he has 4 hours of use out of some phone and if it is the Thunderbolt then I would have to start looking for info on the Revolution.

I think he's talking about the Bionic.

Is the Thunderbolt pretty much just a LTE version of the EVO, which has been out a while? Any real performance gains over the EVO?

more like the cdma version of the desire hd.

desire hd is oc'd to around 1.5ghz compared to 1.15 on evo.
supposed to have better battery life
slcd screen vs lcd = huge improvement
new sense is cool
dolby surround speakers under the kickstand (sweet)
much better hardware overall

you are forgetting the qhd 960x540 screen. 1900mah battery. Those are pretty big things.
