Root Ti backup question

(Psst - Hey, chickie - use that Thanks button at the bottom of posts to really thank her - and anyone else that helps you on the forums. Like I just did.)

Sorry for a second post, but I thought this might be a good place to re-post my tutorial on doing a clean install and wipe using TiBu.

I do a lot of ROM testing and I always wipe all partitions going to new ROMs, or even new versions of the same ROM. This guide assumes that you already know how to install a ROM, or that you've read the ROM installation instructions found on this website. This also focuses on ClockworkMod recovery, because that's what I use. For those who are interested in getting a clean start when they load a new ROM, here's how I do it:

1. Purchase the license for Titanium Backup (TiBu) if you don't already have it -- it's worth it -- and go to Batch and use "Backup all user apps + system data."

2. Once your TiBu backup completes, open ROM Manager and select

OOPS - I forgot! ;)

Lol, all good - just givin ya a nudge.

You rock, johngalt. Thank YOU!

Ahh, au contraire, you rock this place. I'm just here late nights manning the help desk. lol.

Also, regarding TiBu - learned to just stop restoring Swype related anything now - last time (pre-Nov update) Swype worked perfectly fine on a manual install, but as soon as I restored TiBu it went south again.

I now exclude Swype and Swyper installer when making TiBus.

I am a newbie trying to load a new ROM. I found this thread and tried to follow the instructions. I got as far as "3. In ClockworkMod recovery after your backup, do a factory reset (wipe data and cache), then go into the partitions menu and format boot, then format system, then go to the advanced menu and Wipe Dalvik Cache." - But when I try and "format boot," it states "Error formatting BOOT:!" What should I do?

I wouldn't sweat that partition. I have never formatted system or boot when ROMming. If you wipe data/cache, the ROM will overwrite everything else. Just go to install zip from SD card, choose zip and install the ROM. :)

Thanks - but now, after rebooting, I'm stuck with the Motorola "M" - took out battery, and powered up holding the "X" button and got the exclamation screen. Pressed search key and got the recovery screen. factory reset. now stuck at M again. Thoughts?

Flashing an .sbf can be tricky... you may need to use a different USB port, a different PC entirely, or make sure that the .sbf is either in the ROOT of C: or My Documents. Try it several times in several ways.

Good luck

Droid 2. Sorry. Didn't realize this was a Droid 1 thread. If I did a factory reset, and then then exchange this phone for a refurb under warranty, will verizon test to see if it is rooted? Will they honor the warranty?
