Root Time for a change...

Now that I've been rooted awhile, I feel an itch to try a new rom. Been using teppics, and have no complaints at all. It has been great, no bugs that i've come across, and is almost exactly like stock. Maybe thats the source of the itch - so same... Now I am looking for change, something very different, hoping for some suggestions.
Something that is fast. Something that has a very different look and feel. Not necessarily sense based. Very customizable. Not sure I want to go the miui route, as I'm not a big fan of the iPhone look (or can that look be totally switched up by using alternate launchers..)
Had surgery this week, and now I cant do much of anything......umm, well except play with the phone! :D

Would appreciate some thoughts on various roms, any pros or cons, etc.
Thx!!

choices are a different sense ROM, an AOSP ROM, or MIUI ROM. check out the roms on xda.
I've tried LeeDroid, defrost, oxygen and currently on dGB, which is the BEST!

hi CC.

glad to see you have the bug too :-D
I've done miui xj, redux2 and now dGB with manu kernel.
those are all good imo. xj is flashiest. redux2 has different look and
feel compared to xj and stock. and obviously dGB is best ;-)
its SU's rom :-)

who wants stock is my motto now :-D

cheers
dan

btw. dGB with manu has awesome battery :-)

got to agree, currently on 2days, 4 hours and still have 40 % battery. Not used loads, but texts, phone calls, a little Aldiko and a little 'net...
AWESOME

Hey dan, When you say xj is the flasiest, that piques my interest! lol. But isnt it an iphone style rom? Or maybe i misunderstand.... Sure wish each rom had screenshots for comparison.
Im anxious to try something new. But not too anxious to sort out major issues with only a left hand... ;-)

I wouldn't call it iPhone like. its nicer than that ;-)
I think xj is probably a good one to start with

.....and if you don't like it then its easy to change.
I like flashing my rom while on major incident conference calls
at work :-D

Only tried MIUI briefly, and the interface was too much like iphone plus menu structure is different from AOSP ROMs - i couldn't find anything so nand'd back to Oxygen! Change launcher and it'll look more like android again. If you're convalescing least you'll have time to explore MIUI menu structure if you try it :)

Yup, thats what I figure - nothing but time on my hands for over a week lol.
Ok, I will give miui a shot, to satisfy my curiosity, if nothing else.
I'm looking at it over at xda - wow, there's a lot of options and different versions for miui xj...
I ended up at this page: HTC Fanboys - Downloads Does that seem right? And does it matter which version? Seems to get a lot of updates...

Hmmm. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place, I found MIUI_XJ_A2SD_1.10.7_2.3.5_Final_Signed_fghtn12756.zip as the most recent, which I thought was yesterdays release... argh..
There is also a file called MIUI_XJ_A2SD_1.10.7_2.3.5_Final_Signed_fghtn12756.zip.md5sum. I've heard this term (md5sum) before, tho not sure what it is... if i need to flash this too...

mmmm.....right...maybe I got the numbers wrong :-)
definitely the a2sd zip. you don't need the md5 as well. not sure
what it is for :-\

one is the actual ROM, the other is the md5sum. this is a number to ensure the file you have downloaded is not corrupt before you flash it. You need software [e.g. http://www.winmd5.com/] to check the md5 of the rom file against number if the md5sum download.

Only good natured teasing, you've been helpful, appreciate it.

Been reading thru the thread on that rom tho... and seems to be a bunch of issues with this release maybe.. So now im waffling on whether to try it or not. Also seems like it needs an extra partition - I only have ext3 1G. 1400 pages in the thread is a lot to crawl thru...
