Help Time incorrect after android update

Hello all

I have an ASUS tablet which installed a system update (Version 5.0) last week. Since then, it often shows the wrong time. If I switch it on and off it re-synchronises but if it goes to sleep it wakes up several hours behind and I have no way of changing it without seitching it off.

I've checked all the automatic snchronise options to no avail.

Any help much appreciated

Edited to add: the clock is the pre-installed AsusTek but it seems to be the system time that's wrong

How old is the tablet? I'm guessing (?) these devices have a small battery inside to keep time?
EDIT so it loses time while it's turned on? Do you have it set to use network/carrier to keep time? If so maybe try setting it to manual or vice versa?

Thanks for the reply

The tablet is new-ish - January this year (the old one was stolen...) although that doesn't rule out battery problems.

I did have it set to check the time automatically, yes, but for whatever reason it seems not to do that any more when it wakes up. I've only noticed since it updated the system so can't help suspecting that there's a glitch there.

For the moment I have set it to manual and will wait to see whether it still has the right time tomorrow morning.

Ok, on manual, it went into hibernation for 20 mins and is now 20 mins slow.
So I'm getting the same problem whether on manual or on network time - time stands still while it's in hibernation and it piks up where it left off when it switches on again, it doesn't check for the correct time. Can only be solved by switching off and on again.

Just noticed you say it's started since an OS update?
In that case I'd start by wiping system cache and if that fails, the dreaded factory reset

Thanks again
Yesterday evening it installed some more updates, lots of stuff including various unidentifiable ASUS tools. This morning it was showing the right time so fingers crossed it's fixed. A factory reset wouldn't be the end of the world but hopefully won't now be necessary.

Cool cool good luck man. Usually after a firmware update (especially a major one) leaves bugs caused by caches and usually the only way to untangle those bugs are to (hopefully) wipe the cache partition but more often a full factory reset.
Hopefully you've been lucky :)

I have the same issue here. Today morning my Asus' clock was in late about 2 hours. Tried manual and automatic settings change but nothing solved the issue yet.
This is a half year old tablet, as cloudburst7's.
Any idea? :/

Did this begin after a system update or just randomly?
And was it the system clock that was off or a homescreen widget?

1, I'd deleted a lot of unnecessary applets from my Play account (they were not installed, but showed in the "My Applications" list)
2, no system update happened just the common application update (including Asus ZEN UI's )
3, system clock is lating, on the upper right corner of the home screen. No widget installed/used for showing time.
4, (might be connected: there are 3 unwanted application which always appear amongst the installed applications: Clean Memory, Free HD Games, Trip Advisor... Uninstalled 3-4 times, but they always come back...)

What do you mean by applets sorry?
Do you mean pre installed apps and do you remember which ones?

No pre installed apps (like Asus Weather, MyASUS, etc.) deleted so far.

I've deleted the earlier uninstalled ones from the Play's list only (they were not installed on the tablet that time)

The always returning apps: Clean Master (Cheetah Mobile), TripAdvisor and Free HD Games (it's a link only) (Gameloft)

I had wiped the tablet (restore factory settings) now it's loading back the backup from the cloud. 4 mins slower clock so far... :)

Sorry but even with the malware (cleanmaster ect) installed on your device, ive never heard of an app messing with your system clock so I'm afraid I'm stuck here.
I don't understand how a factory reset didn't get rid of these malware apps though because it really should have.
What steps did you take to reset your device?
I think you should do another factory reset but say no at the setup screen when it asks if you want to auto download your apps because you're obviously downloading the bad with the good

I've updated the tab with the factory updates only. Just have raised an ASUS support ticket regarding this. They want the serial number from the original box. :) Need to go home for that...

Status update:
1, I've sent the serial number to ASUS Support (thx for the tip again. Hope they accept it :D )
2, factory resetted the tab, (as a new device, don't let it synchronize any apps, or settings)
3, have set the clock, unmarked the automatic time update/ settings waiting for the results. ...

... and the clock is too slow again... 3 minutes slower after 10 minutes :D
