Time to upgrade

Hi all. I've had my trusty Hero on Orange long enough now for them to offer me an upgrade. It's served me well, but all good things come to an end. The choice of Android phones is rather daunting though...

Here's the list - any advice appreciated!

HTC
Desire S - 49.99
Wildfire - free
Cha Cha - free
Sensation - unknown cost

LG
Optimus Black - free

Motorola
Atrix - 49.99

Samsung
Galaxy Ace - free
Galaxy SII - 99.99

Sony Ericsson
Xperia X8 - free
Xperia arc Black 49.99
Xperia Neo - free
Xperia Play - 49.99

I guess the main question is, how much are you willing to spend? The SG II and the Sensation are the best phones there IMO and are very compaeable. The atrix isn't far behind either - its a little older but similarly specced.

Also, is it important to you whether or not the phone can be rooted?

Thanks - I'm willing to spend a bit if it means I get something that's going to do the job for the next 18 months or so... and I'm not bothered at all about rooting.

It all rather depends on what you want from a phone. Got an arc here and loving it. You might also want to consider the HTC incredible - that was initially my choice before i decided on the arc.

FWIW, my take on the arc:

Pros:
Screen: great colours, very readable in bright sunlight
Amazing camera (best android camera on the market, IMO)
Looks amazing. Best looking phone on the market, full stop.
Very, very thin. Makes it very pocketable despite the large screen.
Physical buttons for home, menu, back.
Rootable.

Cons:
Could do with a bit more RAM and internal storage.
It's not dual core. For some people that's the end of the world, even if they cant actually define what that second core is so important *for*.

Hi I would say the SG2 or the Sensation but the nexus s is still a great phone and you will get all the upgrades quicker to

plus 99 pounds for the SG2 seems alot just say you are leaving Orange and they will throw anything at you to keep you or go to supermarket.com and you will see the base pricings on contracts not just the ones they are trying to sell you .

hope this helps
